What Happens When A Five Year Old Boy Plays Matchmaker Between Two Clashing Hearts?

Jessie Phillips loves her life in Mason Creek and wouldn’t change a thing now that she’s the proud owner of Java Jitters, the popular local coffee house.
What she doesn’t love is the brooding doctor she meets at the local pub.
His rude comments about her coffee house leave her seething.
If she never sees him again, it will be too soon.
Only an accident forces her kicking and screaming, metaphorically speaking, into his office in desperate need of his services.

Miles Carlson remembers the sexy brunette who reminds him why he’s sworn off women.
He moved to this sleepy town to provide a perfect life for his wife and son.
Only said wife didn’t appreciate the azure skies and picturesque landscape, and abandoned him and their five-year-old son, leaving him to forever renounce love.
Even though he’s forced to treat the sassy woman he’s undeniably attracted to, he has no plans to act on it.
Except, there is one problem.
The miniature version of himself has other ideas.
His playful interference melts Jessie’s outrage and Miles’s misery.
They say home is where the heart is … These two clashing hearts may end up on fire and forging a perfect love.

This is a complete stand-alone novel and part of The Mason Creek Series. If you love single dad, small town romances, with splashes of humor, that give you lots of warm fuzzies, then this book is for you. Download it today and get your read on!

My Review

Perfect Love by A.M. Hargrove is the third book in the Mason Creek series, and can be read as a standalone. Now it’s time for Jessie Phillips to find love!!

Jessie Phillips, owner of Java Jitters, is focused on one thing and one thing only. Running a successful business and proving to her dad she damn well knows how to run a great business. So to say she hasn’t had a love life in a long time, well that would be an understatement. But the dry spell is about to come to an end, when Jessie sets her sights on the new Doctor, Miles Carlson. You know the saying, love at first sight…. Well that’s far from what these two felt when they first met at Pony Up… Far from a happily ever after.

After Miles Carlson’s messy divorce, he’s decided to focus on making his practice a success, himself and his five year old son. That’s all he needs in his life. There certainly isn’t any room in his life for the fiesty Java Jitters owner he met at Pony Up. He’s about to realize, first impressions aren’t always the entire story behind who a person is, and the more time he spends with Jessie, the more he realizes she may just be what he and his five year old son need in their lives.

My Thoughts:

If you follow my reviews, You all are well aware of how much I love the Mason Creek Series. What can I say, I’m a lover of small town romances with an ‘all the feel’ vibe. And It has to be said, this series is perfect for those who love experiencing new authors and who, like me, love all the small town vibes. With that being said, Perfect Love was a great addition to the Mason Creek series!

A.M. Hargrove isn’t a brand new-to-me author, but she is new-to-me enough. Having only read one novel by her I went into this one not knowing what to expect and not knowing the twists and turns she puts into her novels. There were moments I loved in Jessie and Miles’ story and there were moments I needed just a tad bit more from. So let’s dive into all the ups and downs.

First off, I have to give credit to Miles’ five year old son, Parker! This little boy made Perfect Love all the greater, in my opinion. I loved the innocence he brought to this story. And I loved the fact that this little boy said whatever was on his mind…. No matter what, if he thought it, he would say it! This boy was the reasoning behind all my laughter. I felt myself becoming protective over this fictional character. So imagine my anger when his mother came across the pages of my book….. Grrr… I felt like a mama bear ready to tear her character to shreds. A round of applause goes out to A.M. Hargrove for bringing out my psychotic over-protective nature.

Now let’s discuss the love interest of this story; Jessie Phillips and Miles Carlson.

You all know, I’m a sucker for single parent romances. I love this trope simply for the vulnerability. I love how these particular characters dote on their children and typically lean towards the anti-ego side of the scale. Miles is trying to be the best father he can possibly be, and through this novel it shows. This man is a damn good dad but when Jessie steps into the picture, he finds himself conflicted on what is the right way and the wrong way around dating and having a child. Too much time spent together can influence and get a child’s hopes up resulting in utter heartbreak if shit hits the fan, while not enough time can make the child insecure on whether or not the third party likes him or not. Honestly, I felt for Miles in these moments and I understood his thought process. It has to be difficult diving into the dating pool while raising a young child. And considering all the drama his ex-wife is putting him through, I would also be wary of dating if I was in his shoes. This character is wrapped around drama. Drama he doesn’t want in his life nor does he need in his life. But through it all, I loved the fact that he sheltered his son from seeing that drama.

Now let’s jump to Jessie’s character. I liked her character but sadly, I didn’t love her. I felt at times she was all over the place, personality wise. What I did love about her, though, was her interactions with Miles’ son, Parker. I loved the instant bond between the two, and maybe that’s why I couldn’t vibe well with the relationship between Miles and Jessie. The chemistry between Jessie and Miles felt on and off. There were moments the connection was as strong as steel, but then other moments it felt hindered. I needed more from their relationship. Maybe more one on one dates or more personal talks about their lives and less about the drama going on in their lives. I don’t know what it was, but something happened to make me feel on the fence about these two. I also felt like the ending was rushed and I wanted more from it. I guess I felt a bit selfish.

And here lies why I rated Perfect Love a 3 ½ Star rating. I wanted more passion between Miles and Jessie. I wanted to feel that undeniable and kindle scorching chemistry, but those moments were few and far between. However, I did love the family time between Miles, Parker, and Jessie. These moments made me smile the most!

Overall, I liked the overall dynamic of Perfect Love by A.M. Hargrove, I needed something more to push it over to the love side of the scale.
