Synopsis:

She’s his best friend’s little sister and he’s a wounded warrior with a terrible secret about her brother.

The blast that killed my best friend, Jake, also ended my career as a Navy SEAL.
I’m left unable to speak and lusting after my speech therapist.
Who also happens to be Jake’s little sister.
Grief is hard on Avery, and I’m here for her. However she needs me. If it’s release she needs, that’s what I’ll give her.
As long as she doesn’t ask me to stay.
It’s the one thing this orphan doesn’t know how to do.
And Avery deserves better than a scarred veteran who can’t speak.
Besides, if Avery knew the classified information from our final mission, she wouldn’t want anything to do with me.

A SEAL’s Heart is grumpy/sunshine small town romance featuring a wounded military hero and the curvy woman who heals his heart.

A Seal’s Heart is the first book in the Jake’s Heroes Series by Sadie King. I decided to pick up this series after I finished Sadie King’s Wild Heart Mountain: Wild Riders MC series and I’m so glad I made this decision. A Seal’s Heart offers an array of emotional moments. I felt everything from undeniable joy to overwhelming sadness. I’m quickly learning Sadie King has a way of bringing raw emotion to her characters, and I’m here for it!

Let’s dive into what A Seal’s Heart is all about. Starting off, this is a grumpy/sunshine trope featuring a wounded hero and a sweetheart heroine that makes it her mission to heal her wounded hero! Did I forget to mention this also happens to be an older brother’s best friend storyline. But be warned, this does come with a trigger that features the death of said brother while in combat. If you find this to be a trigger for you, be gentle with your heart and go into this novel fully aware.

I have to say, after finishing her last series, I wasn’t expecting 200 pages from this novel… I’m used to Sadie King’s novella type reads. But, I’m not disappointed! I felt grateful for the time with Ed and Avery’s story. I loved the fact that I was given a chance to fully get to know these characters, their struggles, and the raw emotion that came with the situations they were put in. My heart definitely went through a journey with this one.

As for the characters, I loved Ed and his grumpy vibes. I also found him learning to talk again to be inspiring. I’ll say it again, my heart FELT IT ALL! The struggles this man went through living through the depth of his guilt in silence. Wanting so badly to talk but not having the ability to due to his injury. My heart felt that. There may have been a tear…. or ten that fell during his point of view chapters.

And then we have Avery. I loved her ambition towards getting Ed on the track of healing and speaking again. I also loved the fact that she showed so much vulnerability and compassion for his situation while also grieving the death of her brother. My heart broke during those breakdown moments.

Overall, I adored A Seal’s Heart. I think Sadie King did Ed and Avery justice on an emotional level. I loved their journey and can’t wait to see glimpses of them in future books.
