Blurb:

I’ve been in love with Jacob Blake since he the day he picked me up in his strong arms, holding me close.

I was five years old.

I spent my life chasing after him—
Trying to make him see I’m more than just his sister’s little friend.

I never dreamed getting his attention would also destroy him.

One night…

A night that held so much promise, broke the man I love into so many pieces, I don’t know if he can be mended back together.
Or if he will even let me try.

My Review

Saving Dancer is the reasoning behind why I’m starting the Savage Brother’s MC Series by Jordan Marie. A few years back I bought this bad boy at a used book store. I was intrigued by the blurb, and for those few years it has sat on my bookshelf and has collected imaginary dust… I figured now is the time to brush the dust off from this series and give it a read. After reading Breaking Dragon, I have high hopes for Saving Dancer. Hopefully this novel can shed some light on why this club feels so broken. I have a feeling it all comes down to what happened to Dancer and why he’s in prison. I’m excited to dive into this bad boy!

In My Own Words:

After spending the last few years of his life in prison for a crime he committed out of protection, he is now a free man. But given the tragedy that occurred in those few years behind bars, the freedom is none existent. There is no escaping the demons and brutal memories that lurk beneath the surface.

A few years ago Carrie knew what she wanted. She wanted the man who always swore to protect her, the man her soul always cried out to. The man she gave her heart to when she was five years old. As Carrie grew older, her childhood crush started to morph into more until that fateful night when everything was taken away from her due to the carelessness of one man and the need to protect from another. Now Dancer is out of prison, and Carrie will do anything to expose her true self to Dancer. It’s only too bad Dancer holds blame over Carrie for all the shit that happened to him behind those prison bars…

My Thoughts:

Before I start this portion of my review, I want to state this novel has some pretty big triggers with it, and below I’m going to be talking about those triggers. The trigger warnings are rape, prison rape, and emotional abuse. If you find your sensitive to these topics, please stop reading this review.

I have some serious mixed feelings about this one.. I had to sit on this review for a few days in order to gather my thoughts. You see the struggle is as it stands, I loved Dancer and the turmoil he went through, but I hated the fact that everyone swept his cold hard truths under the table. If you know or even have an inkling that someone has been raped, you do everything in your power to try to help and try to give that person reassurance that what happened to them wasn’t their fault. Whether it’s a man or a woman in this situation, you do what you can to help and let that person see they do have a safe place they can go to if they want to talk it through. But it seemed like this group of *brothers* didn’t give a shit what happened to Dancer in prison. This fact alone, broke my heart! I could feel Dancer drowning and acting out. He wanted someone to care, he needed someone to care.

But then on the other side of the scale we have Carrie. Carrie was the only person that truly stuck by Dancer’s side through his struggles. And time after time Dancer pushed her away by spewing hurtful words. I understood why Carrie put up with his shit, but that doesn’t mean I liked it. You would think after witnessing and protecting Carrie from her almost rape, he would have it in his mind that this woman knows the fear of what he felt, she knows the weak feelings that live deep in his soul. But no, he did everything in his power to push her away to *protect her* from his demons. This is the type of banter I do not like. I wanted passion between the two, I wanted the inevitable happily ever after feeling throughout this novel. I wanted to see Dancer slowly grow and evolve from his tragedy. What Dancer put Carrie through was emotional abuse, plain and simple. The push and pull, the constant I don’t want you but nobody can have you either so I’m going to claim you throughout this book was complete bullshit.

I was ready to give this novel a two star rating… and then something happened that completely had me glued to the pages…. Carrie gave Dancer and ultimatum, he chose wrong and she walked away. And then I came to the realization, in order for Dancer to get the help he needs, he must acknowledge what happened to him was not weakness on his part. In realizing this, and realizing if he didn’t get the help he needed he would, not only, lose his brotherhood but he would also lose the woman he loves. My heart broke for both Dancer and Carrie and all it took for them to finally find the peace they found by the end of the novel.

Pushing the *romance* aspect to the back burner for a minute. Dancer and Carrie’s relationship also has a bit of suspense woven in. Carrie has a stalker and this stalker will do everything in his/her power to see to it that Carrie’s life ends. Of course we have the club coming in and bringing Carrie into their fold of protection…. Between you and me, this club doesn’t do a very good job at protecting those they love… Which brings even more angst and turmoil to the pages.

I did find some inkling of love for Dancer and Carrie when Dancer started to work through his issues, and I loved the fact that Carrie didn’t give in right away. I loved the relationship between Carrie and Dancer by the end of the novel… and that is why I read romance.

I’m hoping the series gets better from here, there just has to be a book I love within this group of Savage Brothers…… Fingers crossed.
