There’s one thing I know about life:
You grab it by the throat and go full throttle.
Thrown away with the garbage on the day I was born, and doing what I had to do just to survive–
That’s who I am.
I’m the filth your mother warned you about.
Then she walks into my life.
Nothing I expected and everything I could want.
Our worlds don’t mix.
I’m only going to drag her down.
I should have never touched her…
Life can tear you into shreds, make you bend until you break.
Sometimes, you have to face death, so you can live.
My Review
I’ve been on a motorcycle club romance kick lately. Something in me is dying to read all the words of all the series! A few years ago I found Saving Dancer (Book 2 of the Savage Brothers MC Series and it’s been sitting on my bookshelf unread all this time. If you don’t follow my reviews you should know I don’t have the ability to start a series by reading a middle book. There’s something in me that won’t let me. This month I decided to give Jordan Marie’s Savage Brothers MC series a try and here are my thoughts. But first let me give you a little bit of background information when it comes to Breaking Dragon.
Breaking Dragon is the first book in Jordan Marie’s Savage Brothers MC Series. This first book in the series revolves around Dragon, the president of the Savage Brothers, and the woman who unexpectedly steals his heart with one glance, Nicole.
Never in her wildest dreams would Nicole have ever imagined meeting her soulmate at a gas station in the middle of nowhere Kentucky while pumping gas in bare feet. She also never expected the man in question to be the president of the Savage Brothers MC.. But that is what happened.
Dragon never wanted love and he never saw himself settling down and becoming a one woman man. But from the moment he set his eyes on Nicole at the gas station, life decided to throw him down another path. She’s all he thinks about and she’s all that was missing in his life before. Now he’s made it his mission to protect her and keep her safe at all costs. But shit isn’t going to be easy now that he’s discovered one of his brother’s is a traitor. Can he uncover the mole in time or will he lose everything he loves when shit hits the fan?…
What an interesting turn of events. When I first started Breaking Dragon, there is no denying, I was intrigued. I love the fact that this novel incorporates an interracial relationship and an opposites attract type trope. I loved the fact that Jordan Marie took two characters from two totally different worlds and put them in situations outside of their elements. I loved the opposites attract vibes!
My heart loved every bit of Dragon, from his tragic upbringing to his irresistibly high alpha vibes. I loved his willingness to protect what is his. He’ll do anything and everything for the people he loves. But I also loved the vulnerability he showed throughout this novel.
I also loved the fact that Nicole isn’t the typical run-of-the-mill type of Heroine that we see on a day to day basis. Nicole is a voluptuously curvy woman who has finally embraced her body and loves herself for who she is. But there is that little piece of vulnerability that she hides beneath the surface. She can be sweet, but if you cross her or someone she loves she’s prepared to fight to the death. She’s the perfect example of a ride-or-die woman.
Dragon and Nicole together is like water and gasoline, the endless banter between the two kept me coming back for more. I loved every shared moment between them.
Now I bet you’re wondering, why did I rate it a 3 star if I loved the relationship so much….. Well, I loved the relationship but I wanted more context between the other relationships in the novel. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the savage brothers that I should have felt in this novel. It was lacking on great levels for me. I wanted the kinship that usually comes with MC romances. I wanted to feel like the brothers had one another’s back through any and everything and sadly I never felt that. They were all distant, and I needed them to be tighter. Sadly, even though I loved the relationship between Nicole and Dragon, I felt like that was the only strength within this novel. I needed a lot more from the brothers and the secondary relationships. I needed to feel like this was a family, like this was a brotherhood. And sadly those feelings didn’t come to the surface.
Overall, I plan on continuing on with this series. Sometimes the series gets better with each book written. I’m hoping this will be the case when it comes down to the Savage Brothers MC Series. We shall see.
