Blurb:

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—
can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, hotties on hockey skates, skinny dipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

My Review

This year I am embracing LOVE!! MF, MMF, MM, & FF, I want all the love! So, of course I’m going to start this new adventure by reading Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy.

In My Own Words:

Him is the first book in Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy’s Him series. This novel is told from both Jamie Canning and Ryan ‘Wes’ Wesley’s point of view.

Wes found his one true heart’s desire, his soulmate, one summer at hockey camp in Jamie. After one shared heated moment, Wes ran scared not wanting to face the regret filled look he knew would be on Jamie’s face.

Now Wes plays hockey in college and he’s looking the championship right in the eyes. There’s only one person stopping him from that championship. The teenage boy he secretly gave his heart to all those years ago, is no longer a boy. In fact, he’s now the top goalie at his college. And he still has the power to make Wes’ heart sputter.

Jamie Canning, never thought this would be his life but here he is looking to win the hockey championship and he’ll do everything in his power to claim that trophy. But first he’s about to confront the man who completely cut off all communication years ago. His old best friend. Wes.

My Thoughts:

This book has been on my bookshelf unread for WAY TO LONG! How have I gone this long without marathoning this series!? It’s a mystery to me. I loved every moment of thought, every moment of swoon, and every moment that defined the love these two felt for one another. What can I say, I’m a fan of love in all aspects.

Let’s start with Ryan Wesley’s character. I loved how laid back this man was. I loved his overall vibes. But beneath the surface that is a mountain of insecurity he hides behind this cool, calm, and collected facade. He’s openly gay to those who he trusts, but the outside world views him as this bachelor on the prowl. My heart broke so many times for this man. His parents don’t give a damn about him, they’re just in it to see how his career can benefit them. They think it’s just a stage he will eventually grow out of…. So pretty much, I wanted to smack his dad upside the head every time he was mentioned in this novel. We all have our own opinions, one opinion doesn’t cross out another opinion. It doesn’t work like that and the quicker Wes’ mom and dad realize that, the quicker these characters can all go to living there own separate happily ever afters.

Jamie Canning is on the opposite side of the scale. He’s an openly straight man with a ‘friend with benefits’ but this man never saw himself settling down and falling in love. His focus is on Hockey, until Wes comes back into his life. That’s when situations take a turn for Jamie. He’s always had his old best friend on his mind, and now he’s starting to realize why when the attraction for him comes back full blown. Jamie has the decision of his life to make. Is he willing to peek over the fence of his sexuality, or does he stay in the zone where it feels safe.

I loved the fact that Wes treated Jamie like his best friend throughout this novel. There was no pressure on his end to persuade Jamie to jump that fence and be with him. He wanted Jamie to make the discovery himself that way they both win in the end. It’s a struggle for the both of them, from the confusion to the lack of communication, my heart was constantly on the edge of broken…

….and the times it wasn’t on the edge of broken, I found myself having to fan my paperback! This novel was also HOT AS HELL!!! I feel myself blushing even as I write this review. Holy crows feet!! The fire this novel brings to the table made it even more worth the read. Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to writing juicy sexy time scenes.

My heart was soaring through the pages. I ended up marathoning this novel in one day. I couldn’t put it down. I loved these two and everything they fought for to be together. But you know what they say, the fight is only half the struggle. I’m eager to see where Us (Book 2) brings Wes and Jamie, hopefully they come out even stronger than ever!

    1. I Just finished Us and I actually think I loved it even more than the first book. The vulnerabilty along with the heat factor made it hard to put it down. ❤ I can’t believe I waited this long to read this series…..

      1. YAY! You know there is an epilogue novella for them called Epic, right? It’s a great read. And the WAGS series brings the boys in, too. You need to read at least the first one about Blake and Jess.

  1. Great review!!! It’s been years since I read this for the first time but I remember every single important moment from it. Such a memorable love story. Glad you enjoyed both the books 😊😊
