Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?
Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He’s living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves—Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There’s just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.
Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It’s not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn’t help that his new job isn’t going as smoothly as he’d hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.
Or can they? When Wes’s nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?
Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexy times and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green.
My Review
I don’t think my heart is ready for this one! But here I go, diving in head first!
In My Own Words:
Wes has everything in his life he could possibly want. He has the man he loves with all his heart and he’s a rookie in the NHL. With his rookie status still in place, Wes thinks it would be wise to keep his sexuality to himself, until he’s made a name for himself in the NHL. He wants to be known for his skill, not known for being the first gay man in the industry.
Jamie agreed to keep his relationship with Wes a secret until both of them are ready to expose their love to the world…. But hiding his identity from the world is starting to become a harder task than what fate had originally planned…
My Thoughts:
Alright, I’m going to start this review by stating a fact…. I LOVED JAMIE’S FAMILY!!!! Holy tears! These people are true to the name of what a family should be. A family should open their arms and their hearts to every situation they are faced with. These members of Jamie’s family stole my heart the moment Jamie’s family accepted Wes into their tight knit circle. Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy stole my heart with this one single moment!
Wes and Jamie’s journey to finding each other isn’t easy. There’s a lot of soul searching and a lot of broken moments. But among those broken moments are moments of pure joy and undeniable bliss. I loved every single moment of Wes and Jamie’s story. The fragility of their relationship throughout this novel damn near brought me to tears. Hiding their love from the public eye and the toll it took on their relationship brought a high level of vulnerability to their characters. I seriously was brought to tears when the hospital moment came into play. And when Wes threw caution to the wind and showed the world his true self, I felt my heart grow even more for these two. I think it was the fear Wes felt that really got to me though. It was hard to see this strong mountain of a man fall to his knees for the world to see when he found out about Jamie being rushed to the hospital. I felt that fear shine bright through him.
And this is where I talk highly about his hockey teammate and friend Blake Riley! This man is the definition of true friend. He’s a ride or die no matter what the cause. He’s there for the good times and he’s there to get you through the rough parts of life. I need more friends like Blake Riley in my reading! The way he took over and helped Wes get him where he needed to be through all the turmoil, it was undeniably one of the best moments ever!
As with Him, there is a high level of heat in Us. Holy hell is their heat…. And again… I’m blushing while writing this review. Their chemistry Ignited the flame that burned brighter with time. Jamie and Wes are FIRE, pure FIRE!
Overall, I loved every moment of Jamie and Wes’s story! I found their story hard to put down. There was laughter and there were *almost* tears. I loved the compassion and the all over love. I still hate Wes’ mom and dad, but Jamie’s family made up for that in the end! I loved every moment.
