This year I have planned several challenges, some are OG’s from last years challenges, while others are brand spanking new! I’m a little apprehensive about some of these, but in order to succeed one must set the bar extremely high…hehe. At the end of each month I will share my progress on each challenge I have set for myself. This months challenges and reading goals have went extremely well.

First up is my Goodreads Reading Goal Challenge. I’ve been a participant of the GR Reading Challenge since 2016 and I’m proud to say I have accomplished my goal every single year. This year I set my Books to read goal to 200 and So far, I’m on a freaking roll!

Last year I started the New-To-Me Author Challenge. This is a challenge where I read at least 3 books a month that are written by authors I haven’t yet read. This was so much fun last year that I decided to bring it back this year.

In January I only had the chance to read one new author:

Claire Contreras

I absolutely love this authors writing style, she has a way of vividly setting a scene and making you feel the humor and the angst. I was pleasantly surprised with The Consequence Of Falling, and I honestly can’t wait to read more from this author!

If you’ve read Claire Contreras I have a quick question: What do you recommend I read next?

The next challenge/goal I’ve set for myself is the Author Backlist Challenge. This year my goal is to read at least three author’s entire backlist by focusing on their recommended reading orders. This is a fun challenge for me because I have so many authors I love and haven’t had a chance to even make a dent in their books.

In January I chose Jamie Begley as my first author for this challenge. I managed to read 14 out of 25 books on her backlist! You can check out my reviews and Jamie Begley’s recommended reading order HERE!

In January I received and purchased a few books…a few too many books, that is. I have no clue when I’m going to find the time to read all the books on my shelf as it is, I have no space to put anymore paperbacks, but you all know me, I legit can’t pass up a good deal.

I spent a grand total of sixteen dollars and some change on used books this month. I bought four books from my local used book store and only spent 10 dollars and some change. Funny story, when I was setting the books up for this photo I happened to flip open the front cover and to my surprise I found Checkmate: This Is War is a signed copy! That was ultimately the best surprise ever!

Checkmate: This Is War by Kennedy Fox

Travis King is the worst kind of a**hole.
He taunts me for being a good girl and mocks my high standards.
Heโ€™s cruel, crass, and has enough confidence to last two lifetimes.
And I hate him.

It wouldnโ€™t matter so much if he were avoidable.
But considering heโ€™s my older brotherโ€™s best friend and roommate, I see him more than Iโ€™d ever want to.
His sculpted abs and gorgeous eyes are wasted on such an arrogant man, which makes me hate him even more.

Even though Iโ€™ve had a crush on him since I was ten, the feelings werenโ€™t mutual and heโ€™s made that very clear.
Heโ€™s always loved getting under my skin and one night against my better judgment, I let him in my bed.
Iโ€™ve succumbed to his manwhore ways, but that doesnโ€™t change a thing.

Because the King is about to get played at his own gameโ€”and lose.

Checkmate.

The Promise by: Beth Wiseman

Mallory Hammond is determined that no one will stand in the way of her goalโ€”to save a life. She had that chance years ago, and she failed to take it, leaving her adrift and in search of the real meaning of her life. Finally, she meets a man online from a volatile corner of the world who offers her the chance to find that purpose. But she will have to leave everyone she loves behind in order to take it.

When Mallory decides to travel across the world to fulfi ll her dreams, Tate begs her not to go but tries to give her the space she needs. Mallory embarks on her dangerous journey only to discover how swiftly and easily promises can be broken. And Mallory can only pray that she will make it out alive.

Inspired by actual events, The Promise is a riveting love story that asks the question: how far will we go for love?

Captivated By You by: Sylvia Day

Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own.

The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear.

At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream…

Last Hit by Jessica Clare & Jen Frederick

Nikolai: I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. The stars on my knees, the marks on my fingers, the dagger in my neck, all spoke of danger. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision youโ€™d have. I have ever been the hunter, never the prey. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small, scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears.

Daisy: Iโ€™ve been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Home-schooled and farm-raised, Iโ€™m so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best about people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and heโ€™s terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because heโ€™s the only man who has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk . . . and also, my life.

I also made a thriftbooks order and purchased The Perfect Game and The Game Changer by J. Sterling and guess what….? The Game Changer is a signed copy! Four signed copies in one month! I was definitely on a roll! This series is so freaking angsty! I cannot get enough of it. Hopefully I can get a chance to reread it sometime this month!

The Perfect Game by J. Sterling

He’s a game she never intended to play.

And she’s the game changer he never knew he needed.

The Perfect Game tells the story of college juniors, Cassie Andrews and Jack Carter. When Cassie meets rising baseball hopeful Jack, she is determined to steer clear of him and his typical cocky attitude. But Jack has other things on his mind . . . like getting Cassie to give him the time of day.

They are damaged, filled with mistrust and guarded before they find one another (and themselves) in this emotional journey about love and forgiveness. Strap yourselves for a ride that will not only break your heart, but put it back together.

Sometimes life gets ugly before it gets beautiful…

The Game Changer by J. Sterling

Jack appeared at my door last night after six months of no communication wearing a Mets jersey and holding a dozen red roses. He told me he was sorry, that he loved me, and that he would earn my trust again. It took everything in me to not fall apart at the mere sight of him. I wanted to take him back into my life, but I needed to know that this time it would be forever…

In J. Sterling’s highly anticipated follow-up to her USA Today bestselling novel The Perfect Game, Jack and Cassie quickly realize that their new lifestyle can often be cruel and unforgiving. Their happiness is put to the test as the past is never truly far behind.
How do you stay together when the world’s trying to tear you apart?

The Reveal Book Box day is one of my favorite days of the month. I love this book subscription box! Each month is surprise. I get the two book box and there hasn’t been a single month where I was disappointed. The best part of this box is the fact that the books come signed by the author(s) and you get some pretty cool swag.

In January I received On The Way To You by Kandi Steiner and Licked by Brooke Blaine. Both of these authors are new to me. I’m so excited to add these authors to my new-to-me author challenge. I also received some fun swag in this weeks box. (fairy lights weren’t included).
