Synopsis:

STEPSISTER.

He hated that f*cking word.

When their parents got married, the only thing Caleb Luxan had in common with Wren Brashill was that they both hated their parents. When he was sixteen, Caleb discovered Wren’s closely guarded secret and vowed to protect her: from that day forward she became the reason for every decision he made.

Jealousy and long-suppressed desire overpowered Caleb’s fierce protectiveness and they spent one forbidden and unforgettable night in each other arms, but the aftermath left Caleb panicked, Wren heartbroken, and their relationship in shambles. In the time since that fateful night, he’d only seen her once and had only managed to make the situation even worse.

The sudden death of his estranged father calls Caleb home and face-to-face with Wren for first time in years. He is presented with a choice that forces him to confront the painful memories of his youth and his many regrets with Wren.
Like it or not, his father’s last, hard lesson, will demand Caleb deal with his long denied emotions for Wren, or let go of her forever.

This novel was deceiving. I was expecting this novel to be centered around an illegal underground fighting ring given the cover…nope…Caleb however is a fighter but it was just mentioned no details added. He was the type of kid looking for fights when he felt his anger building and what not.

I found myself getting more furious with this novel with every page I turned. I hated Macy but then I also hated Caleb when it came to Macy. So clueless. Anyone can see she was deceitful and playing him. All she cared about was his money. It gets annoying after awhile when the ‘villian’ of these novels are drug out.

Another thing that confused me is…One step closer has four point of views in the novel. But they aren’t subjected to their own section. How to describe this to where it makes sense. Okay I got it. In a part of the novel it had Wren’s POV and then in the very next paragraph the POV changed to Macy’s. It actually took me longer to read this than it usually takes for me to read a novel. I kept getting caught up with the switching of POV’s. I think she should have stuck to two POV or at least subjected them to their own chapters.

Now on to the things I enjoyed about this novel.I really like Caleb’s Protective side when it comes to Wren.

I love the fact that Caleb is an alpha male which is always a plus side.

If it weren’t for the misconception i felt given the cover art i would have enjoyed this novel more. I guess i shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. I’m still up in the air on what star number i’d rate One Step Closer. Like i said above i did like this novel but it had its drawbacks. I just wish there was at least one fighting scene! That’s all i wanted was one badass fight scene.
