Synopsis (from goodreads)
One twist of the lid changed everything…
The devil sat on my shoulder from my first breath, he watched my every move, and with the first strike of lightnin’ I was pulled under.
Walking into Boondocks the voice of an angel called to me and I vowed to live a better life. She kept me on the righteous path until Satan called one last time.
It was time to take him down or lose my angel forever.

Oh My Lord!!! I went into this novel knowing absolutely nothing about it. what. so . ever. Well i can’t say that. Given the title i had a strong feeling it took place in a country setting so of course i was immediately on board because i’m a true country girl. I was born and raised in the country.
“As the liquid reaches my mouth, it’s sweet as sugar, and there is no evidence of alcohol except for a distinct burn on the way down. In other words, this is the kind of shine that will bite you later.”
Boondocks is centered around two high school kids.
Walker is the new kid with an already bad reputation as being the ‘bad boy’ because of the simple fact that he wears a leather jacket and drives a motorcycle. There is also the fact that he is forced to be the lookout for the bootleggers that run moonshine. This isn’t the life he wants and craves for something better. He can’t wait until he turns eighteen and can leave his ass of a dad without repercussions. Then there is Chauna. Chauna’s dream has always been to work and sing at Boondocks (the local bar) and then one day eventually own the bar. Her father however, wants better for her and dreams of her going to college and leaving the small town of Barber behind, but Chauna isn’t having that. When Walker sets eyes on Chauna for the first time at Boondocks he knows there is no turning back. He wants her and he will have her no matter the obstacles that repeatedly stand in his way.
Boondocks is realistic; that is one of the most important things for me when reading a novel that takes place in the country.
I really enjoyed the mentioning of country songs and also the Playlist that Casey Peeler has on spotify to go along with Boondocks. The quote below is one that made me laugh hysterically. If you have never watched the old movie Deliverance you probably will not find the humor behind this quote.
“I just hope i don’t hear banjo music, because if i do, i’m outta here.”
This may be a really strange thing to say but i loved Walker’s manners. I loved how he called his male elder’s sir. I also loved the way he treated Chauna. Walker is a true southern gentleman with a bad boy exterior.
The ending of the novel shocked the hell out of me. I was not expecting any of what happened to actually happen. Sitting here having read and finished Boondocks i’m still shocked. That is what i call an unsuspecting twist.
If you are trying to get into new adult novels and you don’t enjoy novels with a lot of racy sex scenes i highly recommend you read Boondocks by Casey Peeler! There is mention of sexy times but no details what so ever.
Peace, Love, and Happy Reading
