Synopsis:

There wasn’t a moment in my life that I didn’t feel detached. My earliest memory is that of my mother looking at me as if I was something to fear. I’d never had a relationship with her. The ones I did have were forged from loyalty. Love was a concept that was used to explain a broad range of emotions that one felt. I had very few of those, so I didn’t require labels. When a situation presented itself that required a reaction, I thought it out—made my decision. Even if those closest to me believed my actions weren’t something I could control. I let them think it because their misconception gave me power. I was the master of my impulse.
Except once- when wide, terrified gray eyes locked on mine. She’d been in trouble, and my questionable sanity snapped.
That day, I realized my twisted soul wasn’t the only thing buried deep inside me. Perhaps it was what my mother had seen in my eyes as a child that kept her from caring for me like she did my brother. The evil that seemed to dwell but not stir had been provoked. The sweet little minister’s daughter had no idea the demons she’d awaken.

Just when I get a chance of a lifetime to ride for Shepherd Ranch and make a mark in the horse racing world, everything else in my life seems to take a downward spiral. I’m terrible with flirting, and I can’t seem to keep a guy interested long enough for any real relationship. I spend most nights alone, and my imagination is starting to get the best of me. I’ve almost convinced myself there is something in the shadows watching me. I shouldn’t have stopped praying. Now, my list of sins has gotten out of hand in God’s tally book. I doubted he had enough saving grace to wipe all I’d done clean.

Demons is the fifth book in the Georgia Smoke Series by Abbi Glines. Let it be known, Thatcher is as dark as dark can be. This man has no moral compass and he’ll do anything and kill anyone that dare threatens the only person in this world he cares about. Therefore, you can expect some overly possessive vibes and sinfully delicious sexy time scenes! I’m telling you, Thatcher makes Storm look like a saint, and that’s saying something!
Capri lived her life toeing the line of morality. Having grown up with a preacher as a father, and a controlling mother definitely had her wanting to see a world that was hidden to her. Now, Capri is a grown woman with dreams of being the best Jockey in the racing industry. And those dreams have just escalated by being signed to one of the best horse racing families in the business, the Shepherds. But what comes along with those dreams, is a nightmare disguised in a sinfully delicious but deadly looking man. Her mother would faint if she knew who her daughter was lusting after. But you know what they say, the heart wants what the heart wants. Even if that want is dark, dangerous, and will kill anyone who brings her harm.
Thatcher has lived his life holding his demons back. But now that the woman who makes his heart tick is closer than she’s ever been before, Thatcher is about to step into the fight of his life. His inner demons are ready to fight, anyone who dares wipe the smile and the joy from his little doll’s face. And if she should try to run, he’ll enlist his demons to hunt her down.
My Thoughts:
Abbi Glines brought the intensity up a notch with Thatcher and Capri’s story. Let it be a warning, if you like your romances clean and wholesome, this is not the book for you. But, if you like your romantic tales a bit on the darker side with strong erotic vibes and danger lurking around every page turn then buckle up. You’re about to jump on the ride of your life! OHHH! I loved this one so much.
Let’s start with Thatcher. Going into this novel, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Thatcher’s portion of this story. When I say this man is DARK, I mean it wholeheartedly. With the level of dark vibes that he showed in the previous four books of this series, I was scared there would be some detailed trauma depicting why he is the way he is. But nope, Thatcher was born without a conscience or a moral code. Not a traumatic moment detailed, thank god! Crisis was averted!! One thing I loved about Thatcher was witnessing him slowly develop a conscience when it concerned Capri. This man is a womanizer, he uses women to scratch an itch and then he’s done with them. No cuddling or snuggling included in this transaction, but when it came to Capri, things were different. And I loved seeing this gentler side that was so unlike him to have. It was great seeing him start to grow and develop his emotions.
And then we have Capri. Capri is the sunshine to Thatcher’s stormy skies. In this novel, I felt the flawless balancing act that her character brought to this story. I do have to say, I loved how the more she got to know Thatcher, the more her timidness wore away. I loved the backbone she developed in the second half of this novel! She’s the light to his dark, and I can’t say enough how much I love novels that capture this light/dark trope effortlessly!
And now the reasoning behind why I dropped a ½ star off my rating. It all stems from a moment in time that was brought up a couple of times and never talked about again. Aside from the town being scared of Thatcher due to a murder-esque situation. If you’ve read this novel and know what I’m talking about, I wanted more from this moment in the present tense. I wanted the realization that Thatcher was the man who saved her. I think this detailed moment would have made their connection stronger, but it seemed like that topic was dropped off the face of the earth, or rather this novel.
Overall, I loved Demons by Abbi Glines. I think this may actually be my favorite book from the Georgia Smoke Series! Everything from the danger to the few swoony scenes was a love for me. I just needed a bit more from that one moment to lift this novel up to a five star rating. If you decide to jump into this novel, I hope you love it as much as I did!!
