Most might consider me unhinged, possibly psychotic, but Briar wasn’t someone I was willing to lose. Ever. I did what needed to be done to protect, take care of, and keep her. She loved me and wanted to be with me. If I had to do some frowned-upon things to make sure she didn’t leave me, then I’d do them. Besides, not everyone deserves to live. Especially those that did anything to make her life less than perfect.
I would keep my secrets because the truth wouldn’t be pleasant for her. And I wanted to keep my girl smiling. She wouldn’t understand the things I’d chosen to do to protect her. If she ever found out, she would try to leave me. Try being the operative word.
She had no idea the twisted things I would do to make sure that day never came.
Let me first warn you, if you haven’t had the chance to read Sizzling by Abbi Glines, I highly recommend you dive into that book before reading Storm. Sizzling and Storm are a duet, of sorts, within a series. You won’t want to miss a moment of Briar and Storm’s story. This duet is worthy of a read in its entirety! And because this is the second book in their duet, I’ve decided to leave out the ‘in my own words’ part of my review and immediately jump into my thoughts on the storyline, the characters, and the overall chemistry included in this novel. So let’s get started!
Let’s start with the characters, beginning with Briar. In the previous book, Briar shows us her stubborn ways and her independent vibes. What I wanted most from this book is exactly what Abbi Glines delivered. We were given a glimpse of this strong, fierce woman who would do anything to protect those she holds near and dear to her heart. In this book I was hoping for more vulnerability and Abbi Glines brought all the vulnerable traits to the table! I really enjoyed seeing Briar do the one thing she found impossible to do and that is to put her trust and her faith in another individual. Trust me when I say, this trait didn’t come easy to her at first. But there was something about seeing her slowly begin to trust mankind again, mainly Storm, and let the shield she had placed around her heart slowly fall. My heart adored these moments of vulnerability.
And then we have Storm. I loved Storm for his fierce protectiveness and slightly possessive nature when it came to Briar and her wellbeing. This man’s emotions are that of a ‘Storm’, no pun intended. This man can go from zero to sixty in a millisecond when it comes to Briar. He would give her the world, if she let him. And he’s proven that fact time and time again. Now let’s be honest, some of the ways he went about getting Briar to trust him were a bit seedy, and in real life unacceptable. For some reason, unbeknownst to me, these reason’s made me love Storm’s character that much more. This man is not only dependable, but he’s a super alpha in all ways that matter. Storm may just be my favorite Hero in this series for those facts alone.
From the family aspect to the romantic vibes, everything in this novel was a hit for me! The suspense wasn’t as high in this novel as in the previous books, but I do have the say, the drama was elevated a bit more and I really enjoyed that feature! My heart adored Storm and Briar’s duet. The only thing that felt flat, to me, was the ending conflict between Briar and she who shall not be named. I felt like this was the only moment that was a little too fast paced for my liking. I knew the face-off was coming, I just wanted more from that moment, and that is the reason why I dropped a ½ star on my rating.
Overall, I loved Storm and Briar’s story from beginning to the very end. I can’t wait to see what Abbi Glines has coming next in this series! I need more!! Let it be known, if you’re looking for a novel/duet featuring a super alphamale hero and a stubbornly fierce heroine you should definitely pick up Storm and Briar’s duet! Hopefully you’ll love it just as much as I did. But remember, for the most out of this duet read Sizzling before jumping into Storm!
