Blurb:

The nation as we know it is a thing of the past. With the male species on the verge of extinction, a society called the End Men is formed to save the world. Folsom Donahue is one of twelve men whose sole purpose is to repopulate the Regions. The endless days spent having sex with strangers leaves Folsom with an emptiness no amount of women, money, or status can fill.

Until Gwen.

Gwen has wanted a child for as long as she can remember, but when she finally gets a chance to have her own, she uncovers a long-hidden truth. The injustice she sees moves her to help save the men whom no one else believes need saving.

A forbidden love, grown in a time of despair, ignites a revolution. Folsom and Gwen, torn between their love for each other and their sense of duty, must make a choice. But some will stop at nothing to destroy them.

Folsom is book one of the End of Men series.

Folsom is the first book in The End Of Men series. I’m not well-versed in the world of dystopian romance, but after reading Folsom I find myself wanting more books with themes like this! I honestly can’t believe this book has sat on my shelf, unread, for damn near four years…

It’s been years of working through the process and re-growing the population thanks to a plague that came through and wiped out the majority of the male population. Now the case of survival and regrowth is up to 12 men, widely known as The End Men. This story is about Folsom Donohue, the first man initiated into the Society of Regrowth, and the first man to produce a son.

Folsom is programmed to live his life as a breeder and he understands the cause. But bedding three women every day is getting a bit old. He longs for a human connection that he’ll never get. Until he walks into one of his appointments and sets his sights on Gwen, the woman immediately speaks to his soul with one glance. Her interest in his shoes, rather than his body, has his curiosity singing. He wants to know more about this woman, but in his *occupation* attachments could get them both killed.

Gwen knows she’s meant to be a mother, a strong feeling in the pit of her stomach leads her to believe and confess her want to her mother. Now she finds Folsom Donohue at her doorstep with an appointment that will hopefully make her dreams come true. What she doesn’t yet know is his baby isn’t all she is going to want from him when this is all said and done. The more Gwen and Folsom get to know each other, the more Gwen learns the true nature of the End of Men program. Now she’ll do everything in her power to see all the evil that is the Society of Regrowth goes down in flames. She’ll do everything in her power to protect her unborn son from being forced into a life that will no longer be his own.

My Thoughts:

In the past, I’ve seen books by Tarryn Fisher and Willow Aster fly by with only one single glance. Now, I’m standing here kicking myself for not picking these authors up sooner! After reading Folsom, I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on more releases by both authors. There is something about this novel that really called to my reader’s soul. I loved all the unique vibes Fisher and Aster brought to the table. Thinking back, I can’t recall a novel similar to this one and I love that fact! These two brought something new to the table of romance.

Now onto the characters! Let’s start with Gwen, this woman is just as stubborn as she is frightening. If something is wrong in her eyes, she speaks up on the issue. She won’t be silenced, but becoming vocal has landed her in the path of danger. As I’m still coming to terms with all that happened at the end of Folsom, my heart is still trying to digest the outcome for Gwen. My heart literally feels like it’s breaking in two. To think your mother is on your side, and then finally see the truth exposed right in front of your face… The fact that her mother turned her back on her daughter, there is no redeeming that moment for me. But now, there are some answers and moments of vengeance I’m hoping will play out in Jackal’s story…

Folsom is as sexy as they come on the outside. But beneath the surface he’s scarred and bruised. Being an End Man for the past sixteen years can wear on a man. My heart broke for this man and the sacrifices he’s made ‘for the cause’. It brought a smile to my face to see him form a connection with Gwen. I knew this woman would fight for him and his rights. These two were so good together!! I honestly can’t stop swooning over this man! But now my heart is also breaking for this man and all he’s about to go through. I have a feeling shit is about to get real in Jackal’s book.

Thinking back to the earlier part of my review, I said I’m kicking myself for not reading this book when it was released…. Thinking back to that moment, I’m somewhat glad I waited because now I don’t have to suffer for months with anticipation for what’s to come. I can dive into Jackal’s story right now and see how it all plays out! And that’s exactly what I intend on doing! This girl needs answers just as much as I need more of this world!

I gave Folsom 5 stars for its unique content and the fact that I was intrigued throughout this whole novel! There was never a dull moment. I loved everything from the swoony moments and the combustible chemistry to the suspense and the danger! I couldn’t get enough of this dystopian world!

If you haven’t read Folsom and are looking for something a bit different than your modern day romance I highly recommend you read FOLSOM!!

  1. I’m glad you’re enjoying this series so far! I think you will like the second book even more. I hope we someday get a third. I already commented on another post about what books I love from Fisher (ALL OF THEM. HAHA.) My favorite of hers is still I Can Be a Better You. As for Willow Aster, I LOVE her collab with Laura Pavlov called The GD Taylors. They’re hilarious and so fun. (Think Meghan Quinn type reads.) I also enjoyed Aster’s True Love Story.
