“A page-turning romantic feast that will have you desperate for more. I was immediately hooked.” —#1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken

“Kylie Scott has long been one of my favorite authors, and oh, did she crush it with Repeat! I loved every page. Witty, swoony, sexy romance weaved in a mystery that will have you hooked. This one goes to the top of my 2019 favorite reads.” —A.L. Jackson, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

Excerpt:

“Amnesia,” he mutters for about the hundredth time. Usually, ‘fuck’, ‘shit’, or some blasphemy follows that statement. This time, however, there’s nothing. Maybe he’s finally getting used to the idea.

I sit on the opposite side of the booth, inspecting the cocktail menu. It’s as gross and sticky as the table.

“Can I get you guys something else?” asks the waiter with a practiced smile.

“I’ll have a piña colada.”

“You hate coconut,” Ed Larsen informs me, slumped back in his seat.

“Oh.”

“Try a margarita.”

“What he said,” I tell the waiter, who presumably thinks we have some kinky dom-sub thing going on.

Ed orders another lite beer, watching me the entire time. I don’t know if his blatant examination is better or worse than my sister’s furtive looks. He’d suggested going back to his place to talk. I declined. I don’t know the guy, and it didn’t feel safe. So instead we came here. The bar is dark and mostly empty, given it’s the middle of the afternoon, but at least it’s public.

“How old are you?” I ask.

In response, he pulls his wallet out of his back pocket and passes me his driver’s license.

“Thank you.” Information is good. More definites. “You’re seven years older than me.”

“Yeah.”

“How serious were we? Did we stay together for long?”

He licks his lips, turns away. “Don’t you have someone else you can ask about all this? Your sister?”

I just look at him.

He frowns, but then sighs. “We saw each other for about half a year before moving in together. That lasted eight months.”

“Pretty serious.”

“If you say so.” His face isn’t happy. But I need to know.

“Did I cheat on you?”

Now the frown comes with a glare.

Despite his don’t-fuck-with-me vibes, it’s hard not to smile. The man is blessed in the DNA department. He’s so pretty. Masculine pretty. I’m not used to being attracted to people, and he’s giving me a heart-beating-harder, tingles-in-the-pants kind of sensation, which is a lot new and a little overwhelming. Makes me want to giggle and flip my hair at him like some vapid idiot.

But I don’t. “It’s just that I’m getting some distinct vibes that somehow I’m the bad guy in all this.”

“No, you didn’t cheat on me,” he growls. “And I didn’t cheat on you either, no matter what you might have thought.”

My brows jump. “Huh. So that’s why we broke up?”

“This is fucked. Actually, it was fucked the first time.” He turns away and finishes the last of his beer. “Jesus.”

I just keep quiet, waiting.

“You have no memories, no feelings about me whatsoever?”

“No, nothing.”

A muscle jumps in his jaw, his hands sitting fisted on the table.

“It’s called traumatic retrograde amnesia,” I say, trying to explain. “What they call my ‘episodic memory’ is gone—all my memories of events and people and history. Personal facts. But I can still make a cup of coffee, read a book, or drive a car. Stuff like that. Things that were done repetitively, you know? Not that I’m allowed to drive at the moment. My car’s sitting outside my sister’s house gathering dust. They said to give it some time before I got behind the wheel again, make sure I’m okay. Also, apparently the part of my brain in charge of inhibitions and social restrictors, et cetera, is a bit messed up, so I don’t always react right, or at least not necessarily how you’d expect me to behave based on previous me.”

“Previous you?”

I shrug. “It’s as good a label for her as any.”

“She’s you. You’re her.”

“Maybe. But she’s still a complete stranger to me.”

“Christ,” he mutters.

This is awkward. “I’m upsetting you. I’m sorry. But there are things I need to know, and I’m hoping you can help me out with some of them.”

Gtoles Regular

Kylie Scott has done it once again! Once again she’s put a spell on me and caused me to have another sleepless night. It honestly never fails. I should know better than to start a Kylie Scott novel at night. There is no relaxing read to this. This is straight up suspense and mystery! I was hooked on every single page and the anticipation to find out what happens next was never-ending! It was a spellbound roller coaster of ups and downs and I couldn’t get off the ride even if it would save my life!

Gtoles Regular

After a brutal attack, Clementine Johns wakes up with no recollection of who anyone is and no recollections of having a single memory. All she knows is someone tried to kill her and that’s how she wound up in a hospital with Amnesia. Now she’s bound and determined to try to find out who Clementine really is. But on her way to self discovery, she realizes the road to who she used to be is paved with anguish and mysteries.

Gtoles Regular

Before I started reading Repeat I knew absolutely nothing about this novel. All I knew was it’s written by a Kylie Scott and I absolutely have to get my hands on this. Kylie Scott is one of my top ten favorite authors and this book shows exactly why I’m so damn intrigued by her storytelling. A funny story, my boyfriend and I were sitting around and comparing our greatest fears, I know it’s a random and slightly strange topic to be discussing. His was death and mine just so happened to be waking up and not remembering anything. I’m scared shitless of getting into a car accident or falling on my face and waking up to not remember a damn moment of my life. So when I started reading Repeat, right after this conversation, I definitely kept my head up to the sky in fear of falling objects. But on a serious note, anyone dealing with something as life altering as amnesia, family or victim, is a warrior in my book.

Clementine’s story not only had the typical angst that automatically comes with, it also had a few doses of humor. I really loved how new Clementine was so different from the old clementine. Basically a swap in personalities. But towards the end, I loved how a little bit of the old Clementine shined through the new Clementine, if that makes sense. It just goes to show, everyone has moments of insecurity and moments of Jealousy. It’s what makes us all human.

Clementines is desperate to know the girl she used to be. She’s lost in her head and can’t find a way out so she seeks out the man who her sister mentioned, her ex boyfriend, Ed Larsen.

Ed and Clementine’s first interaction post amnesia was a difficult situation to be caught in. Ed reacted in the way a normal man would react after having his heart smashed to smithereens, he reacted with anger. But the moment he found out that Clementine was suffering with Amnesia, his remorse was so heartbreaking. I felt the angst and the guilt coming off him in waves. It’s unbelievable how much Kylie Scott can make me, as a reader, feel with only a few paragraphs. I instantly felt my heartbreak for this man and the decision he is forced to make. Does he help Clementine with uncovering the mysteries of who she used to be, or does he show her the door and say good riddance? So many feel!!

Another thing I absolutely loved about Repeat is the fact that this is told only in Clementine’s point of view. Usually I like the romances I read to be told in dual point of views, however with Repeat only being in Clementine’s point of view, I felt more connected to her. There were holes in her story and I felt the confusion she felt, I felt the anticipation of finally getting somewhere and the downfall of not understanding why so many people show he anger. The suspense was much greater, also because of this.

Now onto why I rated this a 4.5 star rating instead of a full 5 star rating.
Throughout Repeat there is a mystery aspect of who unsuccessfully tried to kill Clementine. I had made every single assumption you can possibly think of, and my last assumption was correct. it was in the second half when I officially came to the conclusion of who did it which is the main reason why I dropped a half star instead of a full star. I do also have to say, the…BAM… moment did come out of left field and was a blind spot, I knew who it was but I never saw that moment coming. I legit yelled holly hell and may have caused an embarrassing scene.

Overall, I absolutely loved Repeat. I adored Ed and loved how headstrong Clementine was. I loved every single thing about this novel, but the mystery and suspense aspect definitely takes the cake on this one. Don’t get me wrong Ed is one sexy beast and the way he’s so gentle with Clementine is icing on that very scrumptious cake, but the mysterious vibe is the thing that intrigued me the most.

I LOVED THIS ONE! and I, hands down, recommend this to everyone looking for something different to read in the romance genre!
