Synopsis:

NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Kaylee Ryan brings you a new standalone series surrounding the Nashville Rampage football team. Risk the Play is a single mom, coach, best friend’s dad, forbidden, secret-relationship, age-gap romance.

Will

Football was always simple—follow the playbook, make the sacrifice, win the game.

I lived by that rule for decades, and it cost me everything. My marriage. My daughter.

By ten, she believed I loved the game more than her. Now she’s back in my life—with a family of her own—I fight every day to show her I’ve changed.

Then I fumble it all by falling for her best friend.

Amanda is strong, stubborn, and raising her daughter alone after her husband’s betrayal.

One kiss becomes something neither of us can ignore.

She wants to keep it secret. I don’t.

Because this time, I’m willing to risk the play. I won’t lose my second chance at love.

Amanda

I always knew I wanted to be a mother. I just never planned on doing it alone.

But when my ex got his assistant pregnant, I stopped, waiting for the life I thought I’d have—and choose motherhood for myself.

Now I’m a single mom doing my best to build a quiet, steady life with no drama and no risks.

Until my best friend’s father becomes the one risk I can’t resist.

Coach Warner is disciplined, respected… and completely off limits.

Watching him fight for his daughter only makes falling for him more dangerous.

We tell ourselves it’s just once.

But one reckless kiss turns into a night we can’t take back—and a secret we definitely can’t afford to keep.

Because if we’re discovered, I could lose my best friend…

And he could lose his daughter all over again.

Falling for me was never part of his playbook.

Risk The Play is the sixth and final book in the Nashville Rampage Series by Kaylee Ryan. If you love your bookish heroes swoony with hearts of gold, look no further and pick up this series. If you also love football romances with action and emotion this series may be for you! But for now, let’s discuss the book at hand, Risk The Play.

I wasn’t expecting to see coach fall in love, but I’m here for it! Will  also known as coach due to his job as the coach for the Nashville Rampage never saw himself settling down and falling in love. He tried that once and it ended in a disaster. But now that things are finally getting back on track with his daughter, a curve gets thrown in the midst of it all and Coach starts to fall for the woman he shouldn’t be falling for. His daughters best friend.

Amanda thought she had it all when her adoption finally came threw, when her slime-ball of a  husband decides to throw a wrench in the situation and confess his long-time affair with his secretary. And to make matters worse, she’s given him something tried to give but couldn’t, a biological child. So it’s justified that Amanda has her walls up as high as a mountain when it comes to falling for her best friend’s father…. She never expected love to find her once she stopped looking.

My thoughts:

Amanda and Will’s story literally had my heart melting. This is a story that I didn’t know I wanted until I read it. EEK! My heart fell into the pit of my stomach during the last quarter of this novel. I was expecting Kaylee to break all of our hearts! The fear of the unknown hasn’t hit me in a while, until now!

Let’s dive into the characters, starting with Amanda. I loved the single mother to an adopted child vibe when it came down to her story. My heart loved seeing her slowly trust her small group of friends with her new child. After Amanda’s husband broke her trust, it was sad to see this woman walk on shaky ground where handing out trust is concerned. But it was also empowering to watch her be a protective mama bear to her new cub. I loved everything about her story.

And then we have Will. If you actually sit down and think about it. Will kind of has a second chance to do better this time around, and I really enjoyed that approach with this novel and his story. And that’s all I’m going to say regarding this fact due to not wanting to spoil anyone. Let’s just say, I really loved him and the redemption he found the second time around.

Overall, The Nashville Rampage series has been one of my favorite series this year. I loved the heart that drove each novel, the heat that sparked each romance, and the joy each book brought me. I can’t wait to see what Kaylee Ryan brings to the table next.
