BLURB:
The next standalone novel from Nicole Jacquelyn about love, friendship, and forgiveness.
Henry Harris was living his dream as a staff sergeant in the Marines. When he’s killed in action, his devastated family is in for one more shock: he had a daughter they never knew about.
Morgan Riley has been raising Etta on her own, and that’s always been fine by her – until Henry’s brother Trevor arrives on her doorstep, willing to do anything to help and make up for his brother’s mistakes. Their attraction feels wrong, but Morgan can’t seem to turn him away.
Trevor is suddenly in too deep. He has always wanted a family, but Etta and Morgan come with complications. Yet as Etta brings them closer together, Trevor begins to imagine giving Morgan and Etta the life his brother never could. But he wonders if Morgan will ever learn to trust another man with her heart, especially a man whose last name is Harris.
My Review
After I requested a copy of Heart Of Glass by Nicole Jacquelyn from Netgalley, I was a nonstop sitting on the edge of my seat and waiting for approval mode. Heart Of Glass is the third book in the Fostering Love series. The first book caused me to cry endless tears, the second book had me loving and laughing at the endless banter between the main character, so honestly I had no idea which emotional journey Heart Of Glass would take me on.
This is Trevor’s story. As you may know and for those who don’t know. Trevor is one of Ellie and Mike’s adopted sons. In Heart Of Glass Trevor is described as a mama’s boy. He’ll do anything to put a smile on Ellie’s face and anything that will make Mike proud of him.
Because this novel is told in two point of views, we also have Morgan’s story. Morgan is a single mother of Henrietta (Etta). She’s as stubborn as a mule when it comes to letting other people helping her. She has pride in her independence.
When tragedy strikes, secrets are exposed and lines are crossed.
First off, let me start off by saying, I adored the first two books in the series. I loved the endless passion and I loved the emotional connections. So it’s kills me to say, I didn’t really care for this third novel. I felt the spark between the couples in the first two books lit the pages on fire, where as this book the spark kind of fizzled out. There was too much back and forth between Trevor and Morgan, which made Morgan seem kind of flakey. I also didn’t like the way she was with her daughter. She was a great mom, but a little to testy when Etta would succumb to the terrible two syndrome.
I’m picky when it comes to single mother’s in novels. I expect strength and maternal instincts from these characters. I come to look forward to the moments where the mother wants to break down but she know she can’t because she has little eyes on her. The moments it shows true strength at its strongest. Sadly, I felt Morgan’s constant reminder of independence overshadowed that strength.
On a positive note, I adored Trevor! I loved his mindfulness to Morgan and Etta’s needs. I loved the way he was with his mom and the way he treated and doted on Etta. But, I would have loved a little bit more of Trevor’s background.
Overall, It pains me to say I wanted to love this book, however it just didn’t happen for me. I needed more depth from the characters and more story instead of wishy-washy moments. I felt at times the novel jumped off topic and focused on the supporting characters when it should have stuck to the true story of Trevor, Morgan, and Etta. There were several moments I wanted to DNF this novel, but I chose not to simply for the fact of Trevor and Etta. I loved their bond.
Peace Love and Happy Reading,
