“This story was brutal truth wrapped in hope, courage and unflinching love. It’s a must read. It’s a STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND READ THIS NOW kind of book. Don’t hold your breath, this story will steal it from you.” – J. Sterling, NYT Bestselling Author

You don’t.
My fairy tale is upside down.
A happily never after.
I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud.
I was a fool, and his love – fool’s gold.
Now there’s a new player in the game, August West.
One of the NBA’s brightest stars.
Fine. Forbidden.
He wants me. I want him.
But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won’t let me go.

Every once in a blue moon I read a novel that is life altering, a novel that has the ability to open my eyes and give me a glimpse of a world that is so unlike my own. Every once in a blue moon a novel has the ability to change my outlook on life and makes me want to be a better person for those that don’t have a choice in the matter. This novel, Long Shot, makes me want to help the world. Silence is no longer an answer!
They say honesty is the best policy. After reading the synopsis to this novel, I wasn’t sure if it was for me, but given the fact that it is written by Kennedy Ryan and I have loved previous books written by her, I decided to go all in and give it a shot. With that being said, I was completely blown away by Long Shot!
It’s been a day or so since I finished reading Long Shot and I’m unable to pick up another book. Iris and August’s story is still running through my mind. Throughout my reading of Long Shot, I was filled with so many mixed emotions. It takes a one of a kind author to be able to pull out such emotions from their readers. I cried right along with these characters. No tears were left unshed.
Long Shot is a complex story about one woman’s fight for survival and her ability to do everything in her power so her and her daughter are safe. Even if it means putting herself in the hands of the devil himself. Long Shot also shows one man’s journey into finding himself and achieving his dreams of being in the NBA. These two stories get mixed up the night Austen and Iris meet in a bar. The two are one in the same.
The emotions portrayed in this novel where flawless. It’s an amazing feeling for a reader (and an author) when we cry along with the characters. August’s emotions during the conclusion of the novel literally had me bawling. I was angry right along with him, I wanted to literally punch a wall for him! However, I restrained myself only for the fact that I would have difficulty explaining to my landlord why there is a hole in the wall….. I cried right along with Iris, I felt her pain and her fear. I wanted to punch the smirk right off of Caleb’s face….. I’m not a violent person at all! That’s how invested I was in this novel.
I’m not going to lie, Long Shot made me really uncomfortable during some points. Every story deserves to be told. This novel is unlike other novels because this novel feels real. I usually skip reading everything else after the novel is finished. But something told me to continue reading and I’m glad I did. I learned that Kennedy Ryan interviewed women that actually lived through the situations that Iris was going through. That’s why this novel felt so real….because it was real. I thank you Kennedy Ryan. I appreciate the way you went about writing this story. You didn’t sugar coat anything because lets face it, the woman dealing with this situation, they don’t get to sugar coat their lives. They are forced to live it on a daily basis. There is no easy way out.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND LONG SHOT BY KENNEDY RYAN!!!!
Warning: there are some seriously overwhelming triggers that come with this novel. Be Prepared.
