Synopsis
When Rory Macintosh’s roommates find out that their studious and shy friend has never been with a guy, they decide that, as an act of kindness they’ll help her lose her virginity by hiring confident, tattooed bad boy Tyler Mann to do the job…unbeknownst to Rory.
Tyler knows he’s not good enough for Rory. She’s smart, doctor smart, while he’s barely scraping by at his EMT program, hoping to pull his younger brothers out of the hell their druggy mother has left them in. But he can’t resist taking up her roommates on an opportunity to get to know her better. There’s something about her honesty that keeps him coming back when he knows he shouldn’t…
Torn between common sense and desire, the two find themselves caught up in a passionate relationship. But when Tyler’s broken family threatens to destroy his future, and hers, Rory will need to decide whether to cut her ties to his risky world or follow her heart, no matter what the cost…
My review
True is the first novel in the True Believers series by Erin McCarthy. It is also the first novel i have read by this author.
After reading reviews and finding a mixed reaction i decided to give it a go anyways. I bought True online when Barnes and Noble were having there summer clearance sale.
I really enjoyed True and i can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This story is centered around Rory and her virginity. During a drunken night Rory confesses to her two best friends that she is a virgin but not by choice. Her two best friends plot and scheme a way for Rory to lose her virginity so they offer Tyler Mann, notorious bad boy with tattoos and a piercing, money to help Rory out.
Tyler and Rory become friends and Tyler finds he can’t take her virginity like that. He is surprised after he walks out of Rory’s dorm to see that Rory has followed him and she’s known about the scheme the whole time due to her best friends coming in and discussing it while Rory was ‘asleep’.
I really enjoyed Rory’s dry sense of humor. I love characters that are different and quirky.
I also loved Tyler. On the surface he was the typical college bad ass. Tattooed, pierced, muscled badass. but beneath the surface he was just trying to do something with his life so he could eventually get his younger brothers against his drug addict mother.
I loved the scenes where it was just Tyler, Rory, and Tyler’s brothers.
Tyler and Rory’s relationship is dynamic.
I’m glad i decided to pick this novel up and give Erin McCarthy a shot!
If anyone is looking for a New Adult novel to start the genre off i would recommend this one to!
loved it!
Peace, Love, and Happy Reading

Tyler sounds like the good guy hiding behind a bad mask. Makes you think is every bad guy out in the real world is actually a good guy beneath? hehe Great review!
Thank you! i completely agree with you. I’ve met a lot of people that had the tough badass exterior but on the inside they were total softies! i love when people surprise me like that it makes life more interesting 🙂
I am opposite because I am afraid to approach bad boys so I don’t have a chance to discover their soft side. That’s good that you have personal experience with bad boys so reading this book is more enjoyable for you.
Yeah, The funny thing is i’m actually really shy. I grew up with the ‘bad boys’ and hung with the ‘outsiders’ but the thing is when i was younger they weren’t the bad boys or outsiders they were like my brothers. If i had a problem or was getting messed with all i had to do is go to one of them and they had my back in a flash. In highschool they were a little overprotective but that’s what guys do i guess. Maybe that is why i love the new adult Genre. I never thought of it that way. Thank you for pointing that out lol
