2023 Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag
I saw Deanna @ A Novel Glimpse participate in this tag and after reading her answers I decided to do my very own Mid-Year Freak Out! If you’re a fan of reading romance, be sure to check out her post here! This tag was created by booktubers Read Like Wildfire and Earl Grey Books.
Let’s Get Started!
Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2023?
If I had to choose one book to list as my favorite of 2023, so far, it would be Good As Gold by Sarina Bowen! I don’t know what it is about this book but it has been one that isn’t easy to forget! Highly recommend this one to all that love romance novels!
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2023?
The only true sequel I read, and loved, this year was All The Truths by Rina Kent. I’m not going to say to much about this novel due to the sequel spoiler aspect. I will say I loved the dark vibes and the suspense with this one!
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?
Love Me Today by A.L. Jackson was one of my most anticipated reads… and it still sits on my shelf untouched and unread! I will read this book by the end of the month, even if I have to lock myself in a room with no distractions!
Most Anticipated Release for Second Half of 2023?
This book has to be Here With Me by Brooke Montgomery! I cannot even begin to explain how much I am wanting this book in my hands right now! September 6th can’t get here fast enough!!
Biggest Disappointment?
This saddens me. Tempting Little Thief by Meagan Brandy was on of many most anticipated reads of 2023, and sadly, I could not get into this one. I was almost to the halfway point and my brain couldn’t process what was going on. I had to DNF this one. I see so many reviews from people who absolutely loved everything about this novel. I can’t help but think, what am I missing. Maybe one day I’ll pick it back up and give it another try.
Biggest Surprise?
The book that surprised me the most, so far, was Jewell by Jamie Begley. I’m a huge fan of Jamie Begley and her Lost Riders MC World. But throughout 30-something books, there has been one character that I haven’t really liked. She goes by Jewell. I was kind of avoiding this book because of Gavin/Reaper’s romance story. Given the fact that he found his other half within a woman who was NOT Jewell, I thought this novel would be one huge sob story. Unfortunately, I missed out big time! Until now,… Jewell’s story was so much more than the unrequited love she felt for Reaper. Her story is all about moving on and embracing a whole new chapter she never saw coming! I loved her happily ever after, and If I’m being honest. Her story may be my favorite of all the Biker Bitches stories! I was definitely surprised by how much I loved this one!
Favorite New Author?
It usually takes me 3, and sometimes 4, books in before I can give an author the favorite title. Lex Martin has earned that title from me with her latest release The Baby Blitz. It should come as no surprise, I’m a goner when it comes to secret babies and surprise pregnancies in romance novels. I love that sudden element of surprise. And Lex Martin does the tropes justice! I look forward to reading more from this author in the very near future. She’s definitely one to keep your eye out on!!
Newest Fictional Crush?
I can’t just pick one so I’ll pick a whole series worth of fictional crushes! I have to say, the swoon factor goes to the Kincaide Brothers! Kaylee Ryan is dishing out swoony heroes faster than I can pick them up! I’m obsessed with this series and these hometown heroes. My Newest Fictional Crush goes to the Kincaid Brothers!
Newest Favorite Character?
My new favorite character title goes to Summer Jones from Bless Your Heart by Lyra Parish. I loved this woman’s ambition and pure stubbornness. When she sets her mind to something, there is no going back. I loved her tenacity, her fire, and her spirit. She’s a character I definitely won’t forget anytime soon!
Book That Made You Cry?
It took me a few years to finally pick Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover up and give it a read. I was expecting to like this book, and I was expecting to shed a few tears. What I wasn’t expecting was to be consumed by this story and sob rivers of tears. This one tore my heart to pieces time and time again! Definitely one I recommend to all romance readers looking for a good cry!
Book That Made You Happy?
The book that made me happy was How To Lose At Love by Sara Ney! From the Humor to the Angst, this novel had everything I look for in Romance. I love a good happily ever after, and this book delivered that flawlessly and effortlessly! I can’t wait to read more from Sara Ney in the future!
Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?
I started to really get into my reading of Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and then I found out there was a serial adaptation of this novel on Amazon! So I’m the type of reader where I’ll watch the show/movie before reading the book. I find more enjoyment out of doing it that way. Mr. Man and I are currently watching the show and at this moment, I can’t see how the book can be better than the show at this point! I’m excited to pick it back up and finish it through a different viewpoint! It’s a great show. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it!!
Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?
Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?
I’m a sucker for book covers with blue as the focal point! When I first saw the cover to The Gunslinger’s Guide To Avoiding Matrimony by Michelle McLean, I knew I had to have this one on my bookshelf! I haven’t had the chance to read this book, but I have read the first book in this series and I loved it, and I’m assuming I’ll love this one too! I’ll be reading it later on this month! So, we shall see if the cover buy was worth it!
What How Many Books Do You Need to Read by the End of The Year?
I set my total reading goal to 100 books, and so far my total of read books is 39… I need to read 61 books before the end of 2023… hmmm, that sounds like a big task! Fingers crossed I make it through the year with my challenge accomplished.
