Synopsis:
She’s twenty-years younger than me.
Half my age.
And twice the trouble.
After two decades of serving, I come home to find nothing’s changed, except her. She’s still the
same carefree girl with wild eyes and a smart mouth. A mouth I’ve wanted to tame for years, but
I couldn’t back then and I can’t do it now.
This time I have a job to do and she keeps getting in my way. Because removing her from my
life is impossible…
She’s my little sister’s best-friend.

Perfect Enemy is the second book in the Beckham Dynasty by M. Robinson. Cove and Jace’s romance can be read as a standalone. Because this is a suspense-filled romance, I’m not going to dive too deep into what this book is about, in order to avoid as many spoilers as I possibly can. Perfect Enemy is sinfully delicious! Be prepared before you dive into Jace Beckham’s story! Who am I kidding, there is no way to prepare for this man!
My Thoughts:
WHEW! Let me tell you, if you’re looking for a spicy romance with angst, suspense, and a grumpy navy retiree turned contract killer… look no further, Perfect Enemy is the read for you! And let’s not forget the age gap (20 years)! She’s 19, he’s 39! When I first saw the age gap number, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. But given the fact that Cove has practically been on her own since she was a child, her character felt older than nineteen years old. So the maturity levels actually evened one another out.
But back to the basics! Let’s talk about Cove. This woman is tough as nails and stubborn to boot! I loved the fact that she did everything in her power to annoy the everloving hell out of Jace. Jace was the first man she ever had a crush on. She was eight years old, the first time she felt true heartbreak, and she vowed to hate her best friend’s, much older brother for the rest of her life. So you can safely assume where this is going. Cove did everything she could possibly do to get under Jace’s skin… from what she wore, to how she acted around him. Everything she did was strategically thought out.
Jace, on the other hand, was a different type of human. This man was lethal in all ways that matter. He served twenty years in the Navy protecting his country and tarnishing his soul. Now, newly retired, he has made a name for himself in the darkest and seediest places around. All in the name of seeking revenge for the lives that were lost because of him. This man’s story, inside and out, broke my heart. He refused to let himself feel safe in life. Because whenever he got to that point, shit would hit the fan, soon after. Throughout my reading, all I wanted was for this man to find his calm and actually let that calm in. I wanted that moment of settlement where he could finally take a breath. And M. Robinson delivered it all up on a silver platter.
Overall, I really enjoyed Perfect Enemy! If I had one moment that I would change, though, I’d draw out the climatic moment a little bit more. It was emotional as hell, but I wanted more from this moment. However, here lies another case of spoiled reader syndrome! I do recommend this one to all those who love age gap romances with a somewhat forced proximity story-line. Definitely read the blurb and see if this one sparks your interest!

This truly does sound like a great read! I need to put it on my TBR.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! I love age gap romances, but the 20 year age difference had me thinking the romance would take a creepy turn. Thankfully, that didn’t happen….
