Kailee Reese Samuels is a new to me author and what’s better than to experience a new author than to experience them for the first time in the darkest of elements. This is the moment when all the cards are dealt and all bets are placed on the table. This is the make it or break it point.
Madness is an incredibly sinister tale that dives into the ‘retelling’ world of Alice in Wonderland. Alice in Wonderland was always a fairy tale I set on the back burner. In fact, until a few years ago, I was never interested in reading the tale. There was only one character that really caught my interest, that character being the Mad Hatter.
I really enjoyed the first part of this twisted tale. Kailee Reese Samuels definitely shined a darker light on the tale and had me invested.
..However..
I was quickly lost within the story. It led me straight into a wormhole full of characters all fighting and yelling over one another to be heard. Often at times I felt Ellison’s character was being overshadowed by all the noise of the other characters. The Madness was out of control. In a way, it fit the story perfectly, but I wanted more from Ellison’s character.
I liked Madness, but sadly, it wasn’t a love for me.
