Before I start this review, I want to mention the Cover! If there was ever a cover to suck you into a novel and beg you to read it……this would be that cover!
I like to think of Filthy Rich by Raine Miller as a modern-day Cinderella story. Man sees woman, man is smitten with woman, man falls hopelessly head over heels in love with woman only to find said woman is trying to work her way through a previously horrible relationship that ended tragically and is unable to let herself feel anything even close to love.
Caleb Blackstone has everything he could ever want in life. He has his wealth, a good family and friends. But the one thing he wants is Brooke.
“I want to be the one to make you forget him. I want to be the one who loves you how you should have been loved in the first place. To make you feel safe, adored, cherished.
Brooke Casterley is an English woman who moved to the United States to live with her Nan after her parents were killed in a car accident. She is now in her twenties and has been through more than your normal twenty year old can even imagine.
I loved Filthy Rich. I loved how the man chases the skittish woman. When I first read the synopsis, I thought this was going to be the typical ‘Cinderella’ storyline. I was happy to find that it was nothing like what I imagined it would play out as.
For starters, I expected Caleb to be the typical playboy with a cocky ‘everybody wants me’ attitude. But instead Caleb is actually a sweetheart that is kind and understanding towards Brooke and her past. He knew if he rushed her or made her feel she was being backed into a corner he would lose her and he wasn’t about to let that happen.
I expected Brooke to be somewhat on the weak side but again I was wrong. Brooke showed true inner strength. After everything she has been through, given her past, she has moved forward and found a way to cope with the nightmare that she has lived through.
I even really enjoyed the secondary characters and am really excited to read their stories.
One thing that was a small drawback for me was when Brooke’s previous husband’s ‘dangerous’ family were mentioned several times in this novel. I kept waiting for this big mafia style boss man to appear and be threatening towards Caleb and Brooke’s relationship but that point never came. I understand that Brooke’s story in this novel isn’t all rainbows and unicorns and that something does in fact happen to her, however, it wasn’t what I was expecting. That alone was a drawback but it was also a heightened point of interest for me. It taught me to never try to predict the outcome of a Raine Miller novel, because it may not necessarily happen the way you imagine it happening. Although it was a small drawback in the end I loved the outcome!
Filthy Rich is an amazing, feel good read, about true love and stopping at nothing when it come to protecting the one you love and showing the one you love that even though there are black clouds in your past, the future holds the silver lining.
