Synopsis:

A rock star who doesn’t know his own mind. A rising star who wants to save him. And a secret that will either save them… or tear them apart.

RIVERS

Lila Potter. Sunshine Girl. Rising star. And as of this week, my agent’s new favorite project—and one, I’ll add, that replaces her old favorite project, which was me. The agent—and for all I know, the record label and my publicist, too—have decided that I’m no longer worth their time. I’m too broken. Too dark. Too damaged.

The sad thing is, they’re right. And Lila is a better option for all of them. She’s gorgeous and talented and sunny. The bright light to my darkness.

The sunshine to my broken soul.

And the only balm that can make me feel better. I’m in love with the girl and everything about her… but I also know that she’s too good for me. She’s too bright, too beautiful, and I’m willing to sell my entire life’s work to save her from anyone who might hurt her.

Even if that someone is me.

LILA

Rivers Shine. Famous rockstar. Playboy. Angstiest musician around.

And also a lost boy, not that anyone else has ever bothered to notice. But I saw it the first time I met him, even though he puts on a good show with his grunge, loud music, and ice-cold stares. I’ve never been able to stop seeing it. Rivers Shine is a good man who’s built a bad reputation just to keep himself protected from the world around him. He doesn’t want anyone seeing the real him, though he’s never told me why that is.

The thing is, I do see the real him. I see the laughter. I see the wry sense of humor and the fact that he’d sell his own soul for the people he loves. I’ve even seen the teddy bear he doesn’t want anyone to know about.

I also know he’s planning to sacrifice himself for the good of his band.

And I’ll be damned if I’ll let him do that.

Because I love him too much to allow it. Even if he’s the most dangerous—and possibly deadly—thing that’s ever happened to me.

Guitars and Mistakes is the second in the Rivers and Lila duo of the Trouble Next Door series, and promises angsty rock stars, damaged heroes, and a girl who’s too stubborn to quit. HEA and heartbreak both guaranteed in this stunning conclusion to this duo! Watch for the next book in the Trouble Next Door series, Smoke and Mirrors, coming in fall 2024.

Guitars and Mistakes is the second book in the Trouble Next Door series by Quinn Marlowe. This is the second part to Lila and Rivers’ whirlwind romance. So I’m going to keep the next portion of my review as spoiler free as I possibly can.

Lila has almost everything she’s ever wanted and all it’s going to take is to help rocker bad boy Rivers Shine clean up his reputation. So with a deal, the two partake in a relationship they never imagined would become the realest thing they’ve ever felt.

That is until Rivers decides to go on a self sabotaging mission. Lila has too much light inside of her, he refuses to drag her down with him… but he’s about to realize, Lila isn’t about to let him go without a fight.

My Thoughts:

This portion of my review is going to be short and sweet.

HOLY EMOTIONS! Quinn Marlowe definitely put it all on the table with this one. I was sent on an emotional roller coaster. One minute I wanted to cry for Rivers and all he went through as a child and then the very next I wanted to shake the man for not realizing the past does not define him as a human being. I wanted this man to see his worth and to realize he has the world in the palm of his hands.

I loved the fact that Lila brought out a different side to Rivers. When she was around, he actually allowed himself to start dreaming of a life he could have. But the moment she wasn’t around was when the dark thoughts would infiltrate his mind. And therein lies the trigger warning. This novel deals with topics such as child abuse and deep and dark depression.

I loved this novel. But I do have to say, I wanted a little bit more light for Rivers in this novel. I wanted more writing scenes between him and Lila, I wanted more smiles and more flirty glances. That is the reason why I gave this novel a four star rating.

My heart was invested, that pretty much sums up my overall thoughts on Guitars And Mistakes by Quinn Marlowe. I couldn’t put this one down.
