Before I start this review for Blunted, I want to say a few words. It’s never easy for a person to lose a parent. I lost my dad three years ago, and since the moment his soul left this earth, I felt a piece of mine go with him. I feel like I lost a piece of myself, and I feel like I’ll never be the same person I was without my dad here to guide me. Writing this review for TL Sims’ book is really hitting my heart in the best of ways and my emotions are all over the place right now. You see, I’m so damn proud of M.N. Forgy for letting her mother’s dream of publishing her novel live through to the end, even though she is no longer here. I admire the emotional courage she had gone through to read, edit, and publish her mother’s’ words. Standing right here today, I couldn’t tell you, honestly, whether or not I would have had the same courage and strength if I had found a novel written by my father. So, I wanted to take this time to thank M.N. Forgy for sharing her mother’s words with all of us.

Now that I’m, once again, an emotional mess… let’s get to this review, shall we.

Blunted is the first novel in the Rush Riders series by TL Sims and M.N. Forgy. This novel is not to be read as a standalone, due to the crazy cliffhanger! So if you are the type of reader who likes to read uninterrupted, I would wait until the second book in the Rush Riders series releases! Believe me when I say, I can’t wait for the next book to be released! I’m not going to go into strong detail about this novel, due to spoilers and such. Nobody likes to be spoiled, especially when suspense is the main ingredient in said novel.

Let’s start with the character C. C spends her time running the flower shop her mother handed down to her right before she passed away. She comes off as a sweet person with a serious independent streak and a mind of her own. But she’s hiding a secret from her friends, she has another business on the side. You see, she grows and sells marijuana to those with illnesses, such as cancer. But don’t worry, the money she earns from the sales, she tries to donate to worthy causes… Honestly, C stole my heart and tugged at every emotion right from the start! A few more things I loved about C was the fact that she was a modern day genius and that she can practically get along with anyone! It shows she can also charm her way out of any situation she puts herself in. There was never a dull moment where she was concerned!

Now let’s get to the hero… or should I say…. Alpha-Hero of the story Lincoln. Lincoln is an Army retiree and now a prospect…of sorts…for the Rush Riders MC. You see, he was guaranteed a spot in the MC, but her wants to earn the trust of all members, which is where the prospect title comes into play. This man is a serious alpha-male! I loved the fact that he wasn’t looking for love, but fate intervened and found him. He is relentless when it comes to C’s safety! She’s nineteen and he’s twenty-seven, so to the readers who love a slight age gap with their romance, here you go! But back to my point, and his fierce need to protect C…. There were a couple instances when I couldn’t help but laugh… like when he stole the beer and wine from her fridge because she wasn’t twenty-one! Omg! I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing, I was laughing so hard!

There was one constant issue I had, normally I would rate this novel 3 stars due to this issue, but given the fact that this is a debut novel, I’m a bit more lenient and rated this novel 4 stars. The issue at hand was this novel felt a tad bit rushed. I wish there was more of a slow burn aspect due to the fact that ther heroine of the story was a virgin. I wanted Lincoln to sweat it out a bit. I wanted him to realize what he had before the deed was done. I wanted to feel that closeness between the two before she gave him her most precious gift. So sadly, I felt the chemistry and relationship aspect of this story was rushed. I wanted more from the two of them! We shall see if book two in the series shines a brighter light on the chemistry. With all that being said, there is one more reason why I raised my rating from a three star to a four star…. The last quarter of this novel. I’m not lying when I tell you, I was literally on the edge of my seat during that meeting! No lie, I damn near fell off my porch swing! C definitely earned points in the most badass heroine of 2023 romance category with that meeting!

The cliffhanger….. It’s been a long time since I was left speechless by a cliffhanger. This one has me literally wanting to email M.N. Forgy for a breakdown of what happens next! I’m sitting here, with all of these theories racing in my mind! I need to know, what happens next? And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason I have a love and hate relationship with cliffhangers!

Overall, I enjoyed Blunted. I loved the passion and I loved the overall energy surrounding this novel. From all the highs to all the lows, I was invested! I can’t wait to see what happens next with C and Lincoln! I have a feeling C’s ass is about to get reacquainted with the palm of Lincoln’s hand. I definitely see Lincoln’s alpha side is about to shine brighter than ever before.
