Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted byย That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week is a new bookish category in which we get to brag about our favorite books that fit with the weekโs category. You can pick your top 5, 10, 15โฆor so on. I tend to keep my list to ten!
Todayโs category: Things Getting in the Way of Reading (whatโs taking up your time right now?)
Letโs get started!
1. Training my ‘almost’ six month old Morkie pup, Buster.
This puppy makes me smile each and every day. When we first introduced him into our home, it was a very stressful situation. I was an emotional mess. I always thought ‘Puppy Blues’ was a myth… but then I came to the realization there is nothing mythical about the situation. I haven’t had a dog in three years, and I started to develop my own solo routine. When I added Buster into the equation, I didn’t add in the fact that a puppy needs a lot of attention and care. Thank god, the puppy blues have disappeared and now Buster, Mr. Man, and I have settled into a healthy routine! I adore watching Buster grow and experience the new things.
2. Home Renovations
Our top home renovations this spring/summer season is replacing the front door and side door.ย Basically, the exterior of our house is going to be the main projects this year. The house is in need of a fresh coat of paint, We also plan on updating our first story bathroom.
3. Marathoning a Series on Netflix
I have been addicted to Friday Night Lights on Netflix! I’m currently three seasons in and I’m still loving this show. Usually, but 2 seasons I grow bored and shut the tv off. With this series, I can’t turn it off. I need to know what happens next. Definitely a good series for american high school football fans!
4. Family Time
…..and the Barbeques have started in Michigan… Mr. Man and I hosted Mother’s day for both of our mothers this past weekend at our house. He smoked three racks of ribs and grilled some chicken breast for the one person how doesn’t eat ribs (me). We also made German Potato Salad (Mr. Man’s grandmother’s recipe) and macaroni salad. I made a homemade cole slaw. It was a great day filled with great food and even better company. So many laughs were shared around the table.
5. Gardening
Yesterday I had to transplant my tomato, bell pepper, and cauliflower, and broccoli plants into bigger containers (Styrofoam Cups). So that took up 2-3 hours of my time. And then, I went to check on the garden are we just tiled up and I found more pumpkin plants popping up in the corner of my garden, this is the second time I had to take charge…. You see, this girl who shall remain nameless (Me) decided last year after halloween, it would be a wise idea to throw her decorative real porch pumpkins in the corner of the garden and then move them the next day…. well then it snowed the next day and this girl forgot all about them… So for the past week, I’ve been checking the garden everyday for pumpkin plants and digging them up. If anyone knows how to get rid of pumpkin plants and easier way, please help!! The struggle is real.
6. Yard Work
Mr. Man and I have been loving spending time outside. I recently cleaned out the flower bed the owners before us had put in on the front of the house. I kept the hostas and irises but pulled all the grass and weeds that were growing in between. I’m not sure what else I’ll plant in there, the options for flowers are endless! I do know I want a flower that wards off mosquitos and other pesky bugs. So I’ll have to do some research and see what my best options are.
7. Building our New Bonfire Pit!
It’s not officially home or summer in Michigan without a bonfire pit. Mr. Man has been researching different styles and I think we’ve finally settled on one we both like. The fire pit is square instead of the classic circle ring we are both used to. I’m excited to add this beauty to our yard and replace the old one the previous owners had added. We’re adding our own special touches.
8. Getting the Pool Ready for SUMMER!
We bought a new filter system for our pool. The old filter was a cartridge style filter, which we had to change every single day. Mr. Man was sick of it, so he bought a sand filter (I think that’s what it’s called) and we’re going to get the cover off this week and install the new filter soon.
And there you have it, 8 reasons why I’m not reading as much as I normally would read! Adulting is a struggle sometimes. Sometimes all I want to do is curl up in a corner with a book and read the day away, and then I remember, I’m 3o-ish years old and I have to adult sometime today.
So now the question goes back to you, what keeps you from reading?
Peace Love and Happy Reading,

Despite the less reading time, sounds like you still have some exiting and fun things happening. ๐
I have many fun and sometimes frustrating activities happening. It’s going to be a busy summer season.
Aww, congratulations on the new puppy!
I hope you enjoy your barbecues and all of this nice weather. Southern Ontario has pretty similar weather to Michigan most of the time, so weโre in the same boat. ๐

Thank you! He’s such a sweetie.
This summer season is about to get really busy! It’s going to be interesting.
Enjoy your pool. What a great way to spend a hot summer afternoon.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

Thank you! I plan on utilizing the pool all summer long! โ๏ธ
I love that you did ones that you don’t mind at all. That’s a great twist!
Thanks! The twist was an unplanned happy accident. ๐
Love this take on this prompt! I love that the weather is finally nice enough that you can enjoy time outside!
Thank you! I thought winter would never end this year. The cabin fever was a struggle.
I never new puppy blues was a thing! I thought I was going to go stark raving mad when we had a puppy. He drove me absolutely nuts. We finally had to give him to a friend because he was way too much work and stress. It was sad, but also such a relief. We haven’t had a pet since. I just can’t handle them, obviously. I’m glad you’re enjoying your puppy now.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

I never knew it was a thing either, until I brought my Buster home. I felt so unlike myself and If I’m being honest I fell into a deeply dark depression. I was crying everyday and it was completely unbearable. My boyfriend tried to rehome him, but I wouldn’t let him. My brain was telling me to keep him, but a trigger was telling me to rehome him. I’m thankful everyday I listened to my brain over the trigger. We are doing so much better now. He’s the perfect puppy, playful and cuddly.
So glad you’ve got over the initial puppy blues and are enjoying Buster! I miss having a dog around, our beloved Lab sadly passed a couple of years ago (after a very long and happy life, he was almost 14).

Awe! I had a lab for 15 years, Sadie Mae was the sweetest! I miss having a lab.
Me too, they are the best dogs!
<3 One day I'll have another lab in my life. But for now, my six month old Morkie is enough. (Haha) Who knew an eight pound pup could be quite a handful. He's the sweetest though, so it weighs out the bad.
Ha ha I’m sure it does-they’re always worth it, no matter how much of a handful they can be!
Ooh, a bonfire pit! I had one of those as a kid, and we used it all the time.
Yes! I can’t wait to install it. Home isn’t home in michigan without a fire pit.
