Synopsis:

Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.

I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.

Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.

Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.

Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.

Coach is the first standalone novel in Devney Perry’s Treasure State Wildcats series. I’m fairly new to Devney Perry’s writing and I just have to say, I was blown away! I really enjoyed Ford and Millie’s romance!

Ford craves a slow down for his daughter and himself. After being forced into retirement from the NFL due to an injury, he finds himself looking at a one year coaching contract for his alma mater, Treasure State, in Montana. So his daughter and Ford pack up and move far away from failed dreams and broken hearts. What Ford never anticipated, life was about to throw him another curve ball in the form of his former best friend, Millie. His significant one that got away.

Millie has worked her ass off at being the top Assistant D.A. Never in a million years, when she showed up to work, did she anticipate seeing Ford, her college best friend and the love of her life, in the flesh and with his daughter. But here he stands ready and willing to do anything to get back in her good graces, and she’ll put up a fight every step of the way, in order to protect her heart.

My Thoughts;

First of all, let me say, I was not expecting to love this one as much as I did. Devney Perry spun her web of tales and I was stuck from start to finish! Everything about Ford and Millie’s romance was a love for me.

I loved everything about Ford’s personality. From his ambitious mind to his protective nature. This man is everything I look for in a book boyfriend. I also loved the fact that he was a single father trying to survive raising a daughter practically on his own. This is a man who put his daughter’s needs above his own. I admire that trait in a man and I admired Ford for being the best dad to his daughter. The relationship between Ford and Josalynn felt real. There was no sugarcoating this situation. It wasn’t all roses and rainbows and I really liked Devney showing that side to parenting.

Millie’s character was a bit different. I viewed her as a person who has been used to doing things by herself for a long time. Someone who had a hard time trusting people to do as they say. Someone who was scared to give her heart to someone. When Ford came back into her world, I saw something change in her character. She began to grow and blossom and I loved seeing this side to her. I loved seeing her passion and her spirit come alive.

When Millie and Ford reunited, the sparks were endless! I loved the chemistry between these two. But what I loved witnessing more than anything was Ford’s alpha side at war with his considerate side. He knew he hurt Millie in college, so instead of carrying her over his shoulder and forcing her hand, he went with the logical side of his brain and waited for her to come to him, no matter how much it killed him to do so. Ford and Millie’s hearts were so big and full of love. It was a breath of fresh air when they finally came together. I couldn’t stop smiling, and I still can’t wipe the smile from my face.

I decided to rate Coach by Devney Perry with a four star rating. I dropped half a star because I wanted a few more one on one moments between Ford’s daughter and Millie. I wanted Josalynn (Joey) to have a true motherly role in her life. I wanted to see the bond between the two grow tighter and tighter with each page turned. I also dropped half a star because I wanted to see more of the past in regards to Ford. I wanted to bear witness to his pain and having to make that choice in college that changed the course of his life. I wanted to witness the downfall with Sienna. I wanted to witness him holding his daughter for the first time and realizing everything he would do, from here on out, would be for her. Call me a spoiled reader, because I am. I just wanted a little deeper of a dive into Ford’s life choices.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel and I will definitely be picking up more books from Devney Perry in the near future! I have a feeling this talented author is about to quickly move up my top authors list! Okay, that’s enough rambling for the day! If you love sports romances with heart, spice, and swoon I highly recommend Coach by Devney Perry!!
