Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted byย That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week is a new bookish category in which we get to brag about our favorite books that fit with the weekโ€™s category. You can pick your top 5, 10, 15โ€ฆor so on. I tend to keep my list to ten!

Todayโ€™s category: ย Non-book Freebie (choose your own topic thatโ€™s not related to books! This could be hobbies, TV shows/movies, bands/singers, food items/recipes, top ten things about you, your top ten favorite things, places youโ€™ve visited, favorite fashion designers, etc. Take this time to let your readers get to know you a little!)

Let’s get started!

When I’m not reading, you can find me……

In The Woods Foraging For Berries and Morels

When I was a little girl, my dad used to take my brother and me on long walks in the woods where he would show us all the edible plants/berries/mushrooms, and warn us of the poisonous plants. I haven’t been foraging in a long time, but given the fact that I live closer to home, I can see myself foraging more this spring/summer season! I can’t wait to collect all the berries and learn to make jam this season!!

In my garden, planting and harvesting vegetables

Looking back at my childhood, there wasn’t a summer when my mom, dad, brother and I weren’t tending a garden, or two. I love gardening. There’s something special about germinating seeds and watching the babies rise from the soil and then kicking them out into the great big world that is my garden. I can’t stop the smile that spreads across my face when I think, I did that. I grew these beauties from something as simple as a tiny seed. This year, I’m planting Zucchini, several different varieties of tomatoes (Some for canning, freezing and eating), Green Beans (Freezing, canning, and eating), Green bell peppers, Several different variety of pickle (canning and eating), Broccoli and Cauliflower. And other vegetables that I can’t remember right off the top of my head. I’m excited and looking forward to finally getting these plants in the ground!

In my flower beds

A new hobby I just came across in the last couple of years…. FLOWERS! When I was a little girl, I can remember my grandmother in her flower bed planting the most beautiful flowers. When she passed away a couple of years ago, I wanted to do something to remember her by, so Mr. Man and I went to our local WOJO’s (nursery) and we bought several flats full of flowers and we filled ten planters full of flowers. It was then, that I realized how peaceful it is to be outside with the flowers, pulling weeds and just enjoying the beauty. So every year, I plant some flowers in memory of my grandmother.

At a bonfire

End of summer/early fall is bonfire season in Michigan. There is nothing better in life than ending the day sitting around a glowing fire and sharing stories and memories with those you love most. I can’t wait to have a few bonfires this summer/fall season!

Writingย

I love to write! So another place you can find me, if I’m not reading, is sitting at my computer typing away. I write for me. My writing can be random based off the day I just had. One day I hope to publish my work. Overall, that is my number one goal in life. We shall see, only time will tell.

Renovating my new-to-me house!

Mr. Man and I bought a new-to-us homes last summer. Renovations were going strong in the summer/fall, but then winter happened in Michigan and all renovations stopped due to cold temperatures. Now that it’s warming up, we’ll start turning this old home into something new and wonderful again! I can’t wait, we have so many upcoming projects including converting my office small walk in closet into a little book nook! I can’t wait.

Four-wheeling on the trails behind mom and dad’s place.

Another thing I love to do is take the four-wheelers out and ride the trails behind my mom and dad’s place! I love kicking up dust on the trails! I can’t wait to ride more this summer!

Cooking/Baking a new recipe I found.

Another hobby of mine is finding new recipes and tweaking them to my liking!ย  My dad was the chef in my family. He would whip together a meal like no other, I like to credit his southern roots for his excellence in the kitchen. He’s been gone for three years now, and I still want to pick up the phone, send him a picture, and tell him all about the new dish I created.

Spending time with Mr. Man and our new pup.

Mr. Man and I felt like something was missing in our house and in our lives, so we brought home a Morkie and named him Buster. My new favorite thing is to watch this curious little pup navigate the world.

Painting.

Yet, another trait/talent/hobby I received from dear old dad. My dad was a phenomenal drawer and airbrusher. I find painting to be very relaxing. Last week I sat down in the garage and painted three birdhouses to somewhat match the exterior color of what our house will hopefully be by the end of the summer. Anytime i feel a little stressed, I get my tacklebox that I converted into a paintbrush box, I sit down and I just let the brush strokes ease my soul. There’s nothing better than letting go for an hour or two.

  1. Jealous that you have woods to forage in! All I have is a swamp. Painting is a wonderful hobb y– I have a friend who does it and I’m hoping she offers classes at some point.

    1. I’m definitely going to be hunting Morels as soon as we get a couple weeks of warm weather.

There’s no better escape than walking in the woods and clearing my head. I missed home, I’m glad to finally be back here after ten years of city/town living, it was finally time for a slow down.

      1. Yeah it’s my favourite hobby, I’ve been riding since I was 8 and I still absolutely love it. Yes, I do love a sitcom, though I have to say my knowledge of old sitcoms is somewhat lacking. No problem ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. Now I’m very jealous of that, I would love to live so close to horses (not very likely living in London!). They are such gorgeous, intelligent animals for sure ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Same here and I’m feeling it right about now! Cabin Fever gets real here in Michigan. We typically have five months of snow/cold weather, this year mother nature decided to throw April in the mix and adding on a sixth month… I’m ready to spend my days outside!
