A small-town, secret-baby, second-chance standalone romance.
“Representing the most perfect example of quality or class” ~ Quintessential
A trip back to the small Indiana town of Riverbend to finalize my grandmother’s last will and testament throws my world off its axis. I wasn’t prepared to learn the stipulations of her will or that she’d left her beloved mercantile Quintessential Treasures to my college summertime love, Kandace Sheers.
Imagine my greater surprise when I learn about the secret that’s been roaming Riverbend for the last five years. Here are a couple of hints:
She’s five years old.
She has her mother’s silky auburn hair and my golden eyes.
The answer is simple.
I take responsibility for the girl and go back to Chicago where my life awaits.
It turns out, Grandma had other plans because life’s never that simple.
Have you been Aleatha’d?
Enjoy this sweet, funny, and sexy, secret-baby, second-chance, contemporary stand-alone romance that brings back the feelings of what it’s like to be young and in love. A stand-alone and one of Aleatha Romig’s ‘Lighter Ones,’ QUINTESSENTIALLY – the ONE.

Aleatha Romig is a fairly new to me author. I discovered her suspense filled romances first, and when I saw she writes a few romances on the feel good/light side of the spectrum, I had to give it a try and I loved it!
Quintessentially The One by Aleatha Romig is the 17th Standalone in the ABC’s of Love Series. Each book in this series is written by a different author. I love this new aspect that’s found it’s way in the romance world. I’m excited to see what more this series has to offer. But as for Quintessentially the one, this book is a secret baby/child romance told from both Kandace and Dax’s point of views. This novel is as sweet as it is sexy, I couldn’t get enough of it!
Five years ago, her heart wasn’t the only thing Kandace gave to Dax. And Dax left promising he’d return. A promise he didn’t know at the time, wouldn’t be kept. Now Dax is back in Riverbend finalizing his Grandma Ruth’s last will and testament. Ruth may not be here anymore, but Dax and Kandace are both about to realize she had one more card up her sleeve planned. And it revolves around her store Quintessential Treasures and her five year old Great Granddaughter, Molly. And that’s where I’m ending this portion of the review!
My Thoughts:
My heart feels light and happy. In all honesty, when I first heard this novel was a secret baby romance I was expecting a high dosage of drama and maybe some tears. What I wasn’t expecting was for Dax to be so level headed and even tempered when he found out about the secret Kandace was keeping from him. I think I loved this version of the secret baby/child trope more than the anger fueled version that is often told in these tales. Dax was beyond sweet and understanding towards Kandace’s reasoning. She thought she was protecting his dreams.
Let’s talk about Kandace. This woman is motivated by her dreams and she plans on busting her butt to see that they all come true. Her dreams are to take Ruth’s store, Quintessential Treasures and re-brand it, building it bigger than it was before. I loved her drive to see the store succeed. I loved her ambition throughout this novel and I loved how much she cared for her daughter. She is definitely a supermom.
Now let’s talk about why I rated this novel four stars. The reasoning behind why I gave this book a 4 star rating is simply because I wanted more time between Molly and Dax. I wanted to see that unbreakable father/daughter bond form even more than what was shown. I wanted a few one on one moments and conversations between the two. I wanted the hard questions to be asked more than what was shown between both Dax and Kandace. Simple… I wanted more.
Overall, I loved Quintessentially The One, and aside from the small issues I had, the smile is still on my face. This was a sweet romance and sometimes we all need a little sweetness in our lives. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes on this author in the near future.
