Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday’s hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow’s promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

My Review

Oh my good lord! I was worried I wouldn’t get a five star read out of this series, and when I felt like the time would never come, Brittainy C. Cherry grabbed the rug and swiped my feet right out from underneath me. My heart was stolen with Maggie May and Brooks’ story! There is no coming back from it. As of right now, this will be the book I recommend to all those who want an emotionally charged story. The Silent Waters is the one for me.

The Silent Waters is the third book in Brittainy C. Cherry’s Elements series. Maggie and Brooks’ story can be read as a standalone. But be warned, as with all the Elements books, their story may be triggering for some.

I faced the cold hard facts after finishing The Fire Between High & Lo, the facts being that this series may land in the like category instead of the love category. But after reading The Silent Waters, Brittainy Cherry has forever stolen my heart!! I loved this novel from START to FINISH. From the emotional turmoil Maggie faced on a day to day basis to the eventual happily ever after. Maggie and Brooks’ story was FIRE!!! I loved the hell out of this one!

At eight years old, Maggie May had dreams as far as the eye can see. But her biggest and best dream was to happen in three short days. That dream was to marry the boy she set her heart on the moment she saw him, she was to marry her brother’s best friend Brooks. But Brooks, being a ten year old boy, wasn’t having it. Girls were gross, and his best friend’s little sister was more annoying than all the others.

On the day of eight year old Maggie’s wedding rehearsal, she talkes Brooks into meeting her out in the woods by the twisted trees. She thought those trees would bring her the happiest of ever afters. But Brooks was late and Maggie found herself lost in the woods and vneturing upon a tragic scene no eight year old should have to witness. A scene that damn near ended her life. If it weren’t for Brooks showing up and scaring the man away, she would be dead. In the result of the tragedy, Maggie not only almost had her innocence stripped from her, but she also had her voice stripped from her. I cried so many tears for young Maggie. Her fear suffocated her, witnessing what that man did and what he almost did literally suffocated the voice right from her throat. And then slowly watching her stepmom turn away from the daughter she claimed all those years ago made me want to yell and scream at a fictional character! But through everything there was one person who refused to turn his back on her. There was one person who understood Maggie’s emotions and understood that this little girl had a fight and a spirit stronger than anyone has inside of her. Brooks fought for Maggie. He fought for her voice, and that was an admirable trait that can’t be undone by any further actions. This boy was more of a man than any character. This boy saw Maggie’s fears and led her to the light when she was in her darkest. He was the companion she needed. And that is why Brooks is my favorite hero in Brittainy C. Cherry’s long list of heroes. Of course this may change the more I read from this author…. But I highly doubt it!

Now, ten years later, Maggie is still fighting the memories from that fateful night that threaten to drown her on a daily basis. And through it all, she still has Brooks to lean on as a friend and as the boy she gave her heart to all those years ago. But not everyone in her family feels her relationship with Brooks is healthy. Her stepmother is against the relationship for fear Maggie, the mute who is afraid of leaving her house, will set Brooks, the musician with dreams as far as the eye can see, back where his dreams are concerned. My heart continued to hurt for Maggie and all she went through. It seemed her stepmother wasn’t even trying to be comforting or nurturing towards Maggie’s needs. Most of the time it felt she wanted to be rid of the weight that was Maggie’s disorder. There were times I actually had to sit my kindle down and walk outside for a bit. You’d think a mother figure would do everything in their reach to see that their child healed. But she did nothing but ignore her needs and ignore her wants.

I disliked the mother figure… I disliked her up until the moment I grew to understand her. You see, Maggie wasn’t the only one living with what she witnessed and what happened to her all those years ago. Each person in this story shares a piece of guilt from that night and when I learned and saw her mothers guilt start to unfold, well…. I kind of felt like a cold hearted bitch. I was looking at one side of the story, Maggie’s side. I wasn’t looking at it from all sides. Each person suffered that night. Which made me cry all those tears even more!

When I thought all the tears had all dried up and we were about to get the most epic happily ever after EVER…. Brittainy Cherry decided to throw another wrench into the plot… and with it came another curveball I didn’t see coming but one that was very necessary where Maggie’s disorder is concerned. I’m not going to spoil you all. Just know, my tear ducts definitely worked hard today! Because the last portion of the novel falls in line with this storyline twist, I’m going to leave it at that. Just be prepared for that special ALL THE FEELS moment.

I have a horrible ability to predict novels from the first chapter. My predictions for this novel were all WRONG!!! Thank the lord because everything I was thinking was MESSED UP and would have tainted my thoughts on Maggie and Brooks relationship. Brittainy C. Cherry did Maggie and Brooks’ story right! From their chemistry to the laughter and love, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I truly loved every single moment!
