This blast from the past has got country star Emmy Lou King singing the blues…
Emmy Lou King is lead singer for the famous band Three Kings, and her whole family is legendary in country music. When her father lands her the opportunity to sing the American Football League anthem and serve on one of the AFL’s anti-drug charities, Emmy Lou agrees. Combining her fan-base and those of the AFL could do some good in the fight against drugs. But can she handle working with Brock Watson? She’d barely recovered from their breakup—and she’s never loved anyone else.
When a hotshot second string player arrives to fill-in until he is cleared to play football, Brock Watson feels the pressure. From dealing with his father’s declining health, keeping the ranch running, staying in game-ready shape, and his dedication to the charity that changed his life, there’s no time for anything else. Emmy Lou included. After six years, he’d like to think she couldn’t mess with his head anymore. But one look, one smile—and he knows she’s as dangerous as ever. He can’t resist her, he never could, but this time his heart is off limits.
The more time she spends with Brock, the harder it is to keep her distance. But his devotion to his family, his fans, and this charity can’t erase the way he’d used her to secure his success. Maybe, if she can guard her heart, she can accept the fiery, no-strings relationship he’s willing to offer. But how can she guard something that, right or wrong, already belongs to him?
My Review
Oh my heart!!! If you’re looking for a swoony second chance romance with all the feels, definitely give this one a chance! I recommend it for all those who love the slow burn style!
In My Own Words:
Song For A Cowboy by Sasha Summers is the second book in her Kings of Country series. Emmy Lou and Brock’s second chance romance can be read as a standalone.
Years ago, Emmy Lou King gave her heart to Brock Watson and he gave her his heart in return. They were the epitome of what fairy tales are written about, until an interference unbeknownst to them forces the two apart.
Now Emmy Lou is the voice and the face of the American Football League and a new charity, right alongside the man who still owns her heart. She’s the most sought after country voice in the industry, and being a part of this charity hits a special place in her heart, and when she sets her mind to something she gives it her all, ex-boyfriends be damned!
Brock walked away from everything he loved that fateful night, now seeing Emmy Lou again for the first time in years, brings back all the old feelings he buried so long ago and he’s dead set on keeping those feelings buried. After all, a wounded pride and bruised heart, doesn’t mend overnight.
My Thoughts:
The more I read in the Kings Of Country series, the more I want!! Sasha Summers continues to knock this series right out of the ballpark! I can’t get enough and If I was forced to pick a favorite book right now… It would be Emmy Lou and Brock’s story! What can I say, I’m a second chance romance kind of girl!
Emmy Lou has the most sought after voice in the country music industry, and that voice just landed her the opening intro for the American Football League! Emmy’s character ran away with my heart! I loved how she was this feisty ball of energy on stage but off stage she was just as sweet as a button! I loved her vibes throughout this novel, and I loved slowly watching her gain a backbone where her mother is concerned. My heart breaks for all the years Emmy and Brock could have had together had her mother stayed out of matters that did not concern her. I have grown to really despise her mother!
Brock also stole my heart with all his swoon and boy next door/gentleman vibes. I loved the approach Sasha Summers took on his character. There are so many sports novels in regards to second chance romances that have the hero becoming an egomaniac manwhore. It was a breath of fresh air to see Brock was the opposite of this. Now I’m not saying this man was a saint, you don’t become a recovering addict by being a saint. But what I am saying is in all the ways that mattered, Brock found a way to become a man his father and his aunt could be proud of. He was a man willing to help anyone in need, no matter if they burned him in the past or not.
Now I’ll explain why I rated this book a four star…. You see, the title threw me off a bit. I was thinking I’d go into this book and I’d experience a little more Cowboy action than what was in it. After reading the first book, Jace, it was mentioned that Brock was a football player. I was intrigued when I read the title for this novel. I was also excited because I love Cowboy romances. I guess what I’m trying to say is I wanted to see more of those Cowboy vibes from Brock.
Overall, I loved Emmy Lou and Brock’s story! I’m looking forward to seeing how the mother reacts to their happily ever after as the series continues. Speaking of the series continuing, I think I’m ready for Travis’ story now!
