Synopsis:
A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy
Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.
And that his best friend has a crush on me.
And that I just moved in with them.
Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?
I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?
He knows where to find me.

After marathoning (and loving) Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series, I knew (and I’ve been told) I needed to immediately binge her Briar U series. Judging by the first book in the series I can already predict this series is going to be one hell of a ride!
In my own words:
The Chase by Elle Kennedy is the first book in her Briar U series, this series is a spinoff from the Off-Campus series. Same flow, same sexy vibes. There are some very familiar faces along with some brand spanking new faces.
This book centers around Colin Fitzgerald and Summer Heyward-Di Laurentis.
Summer is a social butterfly, fluttering from crowd to crowd. Anything that sparks her attention and she’ll check it out. But when her attention drifts and causes her trouble once again, she finds herself in a predicament she can’t get out of and an expulsion from Brown. Now she finds herself at Briar U with nowhere to live after being turned away from her sorority. There’s only one phone call she can make, and hopefully her older brother Dean can help her out of this newfound homeless predicament she’s found herself in.
Colin Fitzgerald (Fitz) is an introvert. On a daily basis he prefers to keep to himself and the small group of close friends he has at his back. But ever since Summer moved into the house and became the fourth roommate, he’s finding it harder and harder to stay out of the spotlight. So in true gentleman fashion, he does everything in his power to stay away from the social butterfly, even though his heart is telling him to do the opposite.
And if all wasn’t bad enough, there is another roommate who also has his sights set on Ms. Di Laurentis. Now Mr. Introvert himself is about to be pushed from his cozy bubble and forced to express his feelings for Summer…..or lose her forever.
My Thoughts:
I’m all for a novel with strong opposite attract vibes, and Elle Kennedy DELIVERED!!!!
Summer and Fitz’s story isn’t your typical run of the mill boy meets girl, boy dates girl, boy has smoking hot under the covers fun with girl, and so on and so forth. There story is so much more than all that. You see Summer is this beautiful girl with the personality to match it, but beneath the surface her self-esteem is hindered by her learning disabilities connected with her ADHD. We all have her inner demons, and trust me when I say, her demons are beyond brutal. I loved the fact that this beauty had her own struggles, everyone thought she had the perfect life because of her social status. It just goes to show, not everyone is perfect based off their appearance.
And then on the other side of the page we have Fitz. Out of fear from his past, Fitz doesn’t allow himself to emotionally connect with anyone. he’s a brick wall when it comes to expressing his feelings. When I found out the reasoning behind why he refused to express himself, my heart fell to the floor. I never wanted to bitch out a fictional character more than I wanted to bitch out Fitz’s parents. These people are the worst!
You put these two together and I imagined a whole lot of drama and lack of communication, and don’t get me wrong there was a bit of both, but these two eventually fought through their demons and came clean with their pasts. I honestly loved the heart to heart moment. I felt all the emotions and the strength behind their words. It just goes to show, it’s not easy to come clean and bare your soul to another, but when you do, there is no greater feeling than that of the weight being lifted from your shoulders.
I loved Fitz’s character. The jock vibes mixed with the computer nerd vibes fit him perfectly! I couldn’t get enough of this man and the more he got aggravated over shit, the more I loved him. Ah, it’s going to be hard to top Fitz and Summer’s back and forth banter…. but I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this series next!!
