Blurb:

She takes my breath away.

She’s so beautifully damaged.
A mirror of my own tortured soul.

I was powerless to stay away from her.

I was responsible for all the pain and grief that brought her to her knees in front of me.

Broken. Hopeless. Reckless in her agony.

But what I took away I can give back…in ways she cannot even begin to imagine.
Ways that I can’t stop thinking about.

Together we spun a tangled web of lust and need. Power and submission. And dare I say… trust and love.

We’re everything right in all our wrongs.

We found redemption. We found happiness. A chance for a new beginning.

but… she has no idea I’m the one who destroyed her life.

Vandal is the second book in the Ashes & Embers series by Carian Cole. This novel can be read as a standalone and also comes with a few heavy trigger warnings. The trigger warnings will be posted down at the bottom of this review.

About Vandal:

Vandal’s life hasn’t always been easy. He grew up in an abusive environment and bounced around in foster homes until his biological grandmother came into the picture. But by the time she finally found him, it was too late and the mental damage had already been done. Vandal finds comfort in his daughter and his band, but the internal demons will always be beneath the surface lurking around.

After an accident, Vandal’s world gets flipped upside down when he loses the one thing in the world he can’t live without. The demons are set loose and wreak havoc on his soul. The only place he seeks comfort is in the tree overlooking her gravesite in the cemetery.

One day, One minute, One Person is all it takes to get a persons life back on track.
When he sees her crying at her husbands gravesite, he knows he’ll do everything in his power to right the wrongs he commited, and it all starts with her.

My Thoughts:

I wasn’t expecting Vandal’s story to be so angsty and more on the depressing side of the romance spectrum. I also can’t believe that I loved this one as much as I did. The emotion portrayed throughout this novel was flawless.

Carian Cole put my heart through the emotional wringer with this novel. This is what I get for not reading the blurb before going in. There are no words for everything that Vandal and Tabitha went through in their lives. The extreme moment when two tortured souls come together to mend two broken hearts was the icing on the cake.

Overall, this is a novel that needs to be read with a cautious mind and an open heart.

Definitely go into this one prepared so here are the trigger warnings: Talk of suicide, self mutilation, deep depression, and the death of a child.
