Let me ask you a question:
If someone is vying for your spot on a team and just so happens to injure you during practice, would you believe it was on purpose?
Word around campus is . . . it was no accident.
That injury has cost me everything; my starting position, my junior year—and the draft. Now, I’m a senior fresh off recovery, struggling to find my groove, until the day I run into a nervous, fidgety, girl with freckles, in the dining hall.
They call Milly Potter The Baseball Whisperer, The Diamond Wizard, and The Epitome of All Knowledge. She believes in baseball. She breathes it. She’s the queen of an infamous dynasty, but no one actually knows who she really is, and she plans to keep it that way.
One mishap in the panini line, one miscommunication in the weight room, and many failed attempts at an apology equal up to one solid truth — Milly Potter never wants to speak to me again — no matter how good my forearms look.
Little do we both know, she’s about to become more than just my fairy ballmother.

The Dugout by Meghan Quinn is a GRAND ‘FREAKING’ SLAM!!!!!! Carson Stone is a swoony baseball player with a chip on his shoulder and a weak swing. Milly Potter is just the woman to put Carson in his place….and improve his swing!! AHHHH! Milly and Carson’s story was pure brilliance!
Milly is a kinesiology major and a huge fan of baseball. Okay maybe ‘fan’ is putting it mildly. Baseball is Milly’s life and has been her life since the moment she could pick up a bat and throw a ball. But being a woman in an all men sports isn’t an easy task when it comes to getting a foot in the door.
Carson Stone has a severe chip on his shoulder. His dreams were so bright and he was looking at being a first round draft pick, until an achilles injury during practice has him undergoing surgery. No major league team wants a player with an injury. No matter how good they are. With everything on his mind, Carson finds his game getting worse every time he plays. Until a woman steps into the picture claiming she can fix his swing in no time.
I’m a huge fan of baseball, so when I first read the blurb for The Dugout there were no ifs, ands, or buts about it, I needed this book in my hands!
Milly and Carson’s story was everything I’ve come to expect from a Meghan Quinn novel! The endless dose of banter resulting in sexual frustration was the candle on a very large cake of epicness. But what I loved most about Milly and Carson was the undeniable chemistry. I knew from the start, these two were meant for only the greatest of romances.
I’m just stating the fact, Milly may just be my favorite female character out of all MQ’s characters! She’s a bit shy but with a quirky streak. Once you get to know her, though, that’s when her true self shines the most and we see more of the free spirited woman that lives within. What I loved the most about Milly is the fact that baseball is her whole life! She’s even built a career around the sport. What can I say, I love when an author thinks outside the box and gives us characters that are different than the norm!
Carson was a sweetheart, once you get past the chip on his shoulder and all that. This man was perfect for Milly. They both challenged one another and became friends before anything started. I loved the friendship vibe that soon leads into something more.
Overall, The Dugout was such a fun read! I can’t even begin to explain how much I loved every single moment and detail that took place in this story. Carson and Milly’s love story will definitely stick in my brain for years to come.
I highly recommend this novel to those that love sports romances and an endless amount of banter!!! It’s such a fun read, you won’t be disappointed!!!
