Today I’m here to review Trust The Push by Kaylee Ryan. Trust The Push is set to release on March 19th, 2019. The is a contemporary romance involving a sweet yet grumpy dirt late model racer and a massage therapist. Sounds dirty, right?
Trust The Push is also told in dual point of views (Blaine and Aubree).
Before I dive into this review let’s dive into a little about what Trust The Push is about.
Trust The Push is the story of an overachieving racer who’s on his way to earning the credentials as the best Dirt Late Model Racer. He’s on his way to being a three year reigning champ in the sport. So that means absolutely no distractions allowed. And a top of her career massage therapist with a painful backstory she’d more than willing leave in the past.
When one of his crew men injures their back, his other crew man decides to listen to his wife (smart man) and hire a massage therapist to help out. Aubree is the exact definition of the kind of distraction Blaine doesn’t need in his life. Thank god she’s only here for one night, RIght!?
But when Aubree is propositioned with a job for her boss’s boss to join Bishop Racing for the rest of the season, all bets are on the table and Aubree and Blaine get caught up in fate’s wicked ways.
My thoughts:
Now I’m about to get real technical due to the fact that I love the hell out of racing as a sport and even more in the romance novels I read. And not to start this review in a negative light, but I have to state a fact that really bothered me about this novel. One of the main reasons why I love reading novels that have racing int hem is because of the adrenaline the sport brings. And it pains me to say this, but because i”m all about being honest in my reviews, I have to. I was a little disappointed that there weren’t many play by play racing scenes in this novel. In the first half of the novel there was the mention of racing, but never a scene really detailing the race itself. It felt like it was passed over. I wanted that adrenaline, I needed my next fix, and it was not delivered. I do have to mention that in the second half there is a scene that spiked my adrenaline up a notch…. I still wanted more though.
What I did love about the novel was the chemistry between Blaine and Aubree. Blaine is a hardass who needs to be in control of everything, including his body and his heart. When Aubree steps on the scene, Blaine loses all sense of control. I loved watching his control slip and the anger he felt by his betraying heart. But I’m a sucker for a crumbling man falling in love for the first time. I love the fragility these moments hold. It was something worth reading. Something worth loving.
Aubree was someone who could be looked up to. She came from nothing and in the end she has everything she could ever want, a love worth living for. It was painful to here her expose her back story in bits and pieces, my heart felt for her on a deeper level. I have to say though, there were a few moments between Blaine and Aubree that felt rushed. I was on the verge of taking it all in and then the chapter would end and I was left hanging on that proverbial cliff. Even though I really enjoyed witnessing this couple fall in love, I wanted a little bit more from them.
I cannot end this review without at least mentioning the Bishop Crew!!! OMG, I loved the strong familial vibe this novel held. That’s one thing I love about Kaylee Ryan’s novels. She never disappoints when adding in a strong family. These may be secondary characters, but they never felt that way. I loved them just as much as I loved the romance between Blaine and Aubrey!
The ending made this novel! I legit cried when Blaine exposed his heart and his love. The waterworks wouldn’t stop. Watching a man, whether fictional or real, break down has always been my undoing.
Overall, I did enjoy Trust The Push, I just wanted a bit more from certain moments in the novel such as the racing scenes. But on a romantic aspect, I loved the Blaine and Aubree, I loved the fight, and I loved the feels.
