No matter how bad he aches for one taste.
Her sweet overtures break down the ex-soldier’s defenses, but there’s more at stake than her body. Every touch, every kiss, every night. The closer she gets, the more exposed his darkest secret.
She’s one step away from finding out what happened the night she lost her family. One step away from leaving him forever.

“Growing up isn’t about learning something new. It’s about unlearning the fairy tales you believe as a child.”
Overture is the first book in a brand new series by Skye Warren. This novel is told in the point of views of Samantha and Liam. This novel also contains an age gap romance and ends with a major cliffhanger. If that is a huge deal breaker for you, you probably won’t care for this one too much.
Samantha and Liam’s romance is a whirlwind. When Samantha was twelve years old her father had a heart attack and died leaving her a ward of the state. Out of the blue, Liam mysteriously stepped in and was granted full guardianship of the girl. Now years later, Samantha is nearing her eighteenth birthday and the impending doom of her living arrangements.
Liam is unable to feel love, or so that’s what he tells himself. After years of caring for Samantha and enhancing and pushing her to be a musical prodigy, he’s dreading the day she turns eighteen, because not only will she graduate from high school but she will also be leaving on a tour with fellow musical prodigies.
Alright, It’s time for me to be honest, as I always am when a novel involves taboo material such as this one. I’m not much of a fan of age gaps, there are some that I really enjoy, but more than most I’d rather leave them on the shelf. So when I first read the blurb for this one, I legit groaned. But there was something about the blurb that drew me in and made me want to request a copy of this novel. This novel does involve a romance between a seventeen year old, months away from her eighteenth birthday, and a twenty eight year old man. However the romance is solely based on an emotional level and except for a few small kisses the physical relationship doesn’t happen until the moment she turns eighteen. Do I think it’s weird that a grown man is feeling lust towards a teenage girl, Yeah it’s a little weird. But for some unknown reason, I feel this relationship works for them, and its fiction….right?
The vibe of this novel was just okay for me. I really liked the characters, but I felt a few important moments in the novel were rushed and I would have liked a little more of Samantha’s back story. I feel if we were granted more of a birds eye viewpoint into the situation that took place when Samantha was a little girl, I would have been able to better connect with this character. I couldn’t grasp her emotionally though.
As for Liam, this man has the strength of a saint. The temptations lingering in this novel made me feel sorry for this man, but I also wanted to throw a book at him and tell him to go tap someone his own age. Hehe, it’s society I swear, because as soon as those seconds counted down and she was officially eighteen, everything was clear and bright in my mind. I was even mentally cussing Liam out for not giving it to her right away…. Yeah, this novel had my thought process completely messed up.
Overall, I found Samantha and Liam’s story to be very intriguing and at times downright dirty. There were moments I loved and moments I loved, not so much. Now the question of would I recommend this book or not. It depends on the reader’s preferences. If you are a reader who loves dirty taboo romances involving age gaps and kinky thoughts, then hell yeah, this is the perfect novel for you. If you’re the opposite reader who likes wholehearted clean love stories….maybe you should think about skipping this one. There is nothing clean and pure about Samantha and Liam’s story. Also, if you are like me and cliffhangers test your patience, hang onto your seat because this cliffy is brutal AF! I legit can’t stand not knowing what’s going to happen next. I need answers and I need them right now! I’m even more intrigued to see what is in store for Samantha and Liam.
Here’s a funny story before you go. It is so hard for me to read a novel when the hero of the story’s name is Liam. My oldest nephew is Liam and it weirds me out a bit when I read a romance novel involving this name. Often I switch up the name in my head so it doesn’t disturb me as much. Does anyone else have this issue with the names of characters, or is it just me?
Peace Love and Happy Reading,
