Title: Don’t Speak (a modern fairytale)
Author: Katy Regnery
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: Feb 27th, 2016
My Rating: 5++++ Stars
Synopsis:
From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.
A fisherman’s daughter.
The governor’s son.
Two very different worlds.
In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman’s daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of North Carolina’s governor at a fancy party where she’s working.
Laire, who wants so much more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.
Years later, when fate leads them back to one another, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.
All novels Katy Regnery’s ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated to P.E.O. Contemporary Romance. Due to profanity, adult themes and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

AMAZING!!!!!!
Starting off with a little background information. When I was younger I wanted to be Ariel. I was that obsessed with The Little Mermaid!
When I heard that Katy Regnery was writing a novel based off of The Little Mermaid, I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical, but I was also curious. I was curious to see how she would portray a ‘mermaid’ falling in love with a ‘prince’.
Then I read the synopsis:
A fisherman’s daughter
A governor’s son.
MINDBLOWN!
Pure F*CKING genius!!!!
I fell in love at first sight with this synopsis.
While reading I became very addicted with this story. Almost like the time when I was seven and i watched The Little Mermaid five times on an endless loop…..(but we won’t talk about that.)
I was spellbound. I thought Katy Regnery did a kickass job of bringing the characters from the movie to real life in the book. For example we have a Ms. Sebastian who is the woman who overall protects and watches out for Laire. We have Laire which is a fun mashup from the letters in Ariel. Then we have a cat named Flounder who makes a couple of appearances and lets not forget Ursula ‘Fancy’ Rexford, and that’s just a few of the characters.
Now if you skipped over the synopsis let me break it down for you.
Laire is a Fisherman’s daughter, she was born and raised on an Island in the outer banks. On this Island the people are old fashioned…..Like…..seriously old fashioned. They believe that you settle down young and raise babies. If you’re caught canoodling with another, that man best do right by you and settle things, which can only mean a ring on the finger. If you are caught canoodling and you don’t settle down, then you’re an outcast. Erik is the Governors son, He lives in the now-a-days time where it is okay to bed random people and not have consequences afterwards. Laire has dreams of leaving the Island one day and achieving her goals of going to college and making something of herself that doesn’t involve settling down on an island with 10+ kids. She meets Erik while making a delivery for her father. She is intrigued by him. Erik is enamored by Laire and her beauty. They spend a beautiful summer together before the lies and deceit spun only by the evil Ursula set in. (I hated Ursula then and I hate her even more now)
I loved this novel so freaking much. I loved the modern-day spin on the little mermaid. I loved the angst and the drama. It was overall a beautiful love story. The characters were written flawlessly. The emotions were portrayed perfectly. What they felt, I felt. I especially loved Erik and Laire’s connection throughout this novel. It was a true Fairytale! Keep in mind this is an ‘Adult’ Fairytale meaning there are some sexy time scenes and other adult content, it is not intended for kids.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DON’T SPEAK!
