Blurb:

Three months touring Europe.
Romantic. Dazzling. Unforgettable.
The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way. No one could. No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.
Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.
It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.
One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.
Our true love story.

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told. It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness. It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful. It’s a love story. A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won’t give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I’ve seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same. I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

My Review

Before you read this book let me warn you (SMALL SPOILER BELOW)

This book is about a Cancer Patient and the love and lose a family faces after Cancer has won. But it is told in a devastatingly beautiful way if that makes sense So if Cancer is a trigger for you i would recommend you NOT read this book.

I wanted to love this book…i really did but for some reason i just wasn’t feeling it. It could be that i still have ‘A thousand boy kisses by: Tillie Cole’ Still ingrained in my memories. I don’t know…i really don’t know 🙁

I’m going to try and make this as SPOILER FREE as possible

For starters i loved Lena and Nate. Their love is unstoppable and untouchable. I loved how they were there for each other even through the worst of times and trust me nothing can be worse than going through what they went through. There love is why i labeled this Devastatingly Beautiful up above.

One thing i loved about this novel isn’t actually part of the story but what is at the back of the book and that is the dear readers letter that M. Leighton wrote. It honest to god broke my heart. That was the only time i cried during this whole thing. This story makes me respect M. Leighton as a person. She was able to write about a tragedy that struck her family. Like she said in the letter it isn’t exactly what her family went through but it is what inspired her to write this. If you haven’t read the DEAR READER portion you should really check it out. I usually skip that part of the book but something told me to read it. It made me understand the book a little bit more

I would have liked the trip to Europe to be a little longer and more detailed. That is what the synopsis talked the most about so i thought in a way it was going to be based on a 3 month vacation like plot. The synopsis was a little deceiving.

I have mixed opinions on the way the main character handled the “Big News” that happened on their little trip overseas. That’s just me being honest. I guess its one of those situations where you don’t know what you’ll do until the situation happens to you. HMM.

The reason why i rated this book 3/5 stars isn’t anything personal it just wasn’t for me. I liked the characters and the premise of the story but in a way i think it kind of fell short. Like i said i was expecting a story told on the span of a three month vacation and it wasn’t. I also feel that this book held way to much devastation.

Let me know if you read The Empty Jar and what you thought about it in the comments below. Maybe i’ll give it another try in the future. It may be bad timing on my part with reading it and not caring to much for it.

Peace Love and Happy Reading,
