Synopsis:
Crossing a line has never felt this good.
I’m what you’d call a good girl—at least that’s what my family thinks. But I’m tired of living by everyone else’s rules. So when I sneak into a scandalous, masked costume party and spot Beau Walker—my longtime crush and my family’s sworn enemy—I do something bold: I cross the one line that’s utterly forbidden.
Hidden by shadows and masks, we lose ourselves in the hottest night of my life. Until I accidentally moan his name, and everything comes crashing to a halt.
Beau says things I can’t forget, and my fantasy of him shatters along with my heart.
But when suspicious fires break out at the high school where I teach, I’m forced to see the one firefighter I wish I could forget.
And when our long-smoldering tension finally ignites, the heat between us lights up the sky—and reveals a danger neither of us saw coming.
Burning Skies is an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden romance that features a scorchingly hot firefighter and the little sister of his long-time nemesis. If you enjoy cowboy families, old vendettas, and small towns brimming with secrets, this one is for you!

Burning Skies is the third book in Lex Martin’s Wild At Heart series. If you are new to this series, have no fear, each book can be read as a standalone! If you are looking for a book with a strong forbidden sense that features enemies to lovers and a family rivalry, definitely read this book! Let’s dive into what Burning Skies is all about.
Honey McAllister has only ever had to follow one rule in her family, never side with a Walker. Ever since she was a little girl, she heard stories of how the McAllister/Walker feud began. It was ingrained in her to view them as enemies. But there was always something about Beau Walker that spoke to Honey. Until one night, one conversation, and one embarrassing moment shattered her crush for Beau. Now, that fire still burns bright, but in a different way.
And that’s where I’m going to end the about portion of my review. Now lets dive into my thoughts.
It should come as no surprise, I loved Beau and Honey’s story. I was intrigued from start to finish. There was never a moment of dullness that is for sure! I was captivated by this tale of forbidden love, rival families, and unhinged shenanigan’s. Lex Martin is a master at her craft!
Let’s start with Beau Walker! Beau is the town’s hot and single firefighter, and he’s not ashamed to claim that title. Lately, something has been missing. Beau is watching his brother’s pair off and find their happily ever after and he’s feeling a tad bit left out. I have to say, I adored Beau Walker. When I first started this novel, I though Beau was going to be a womanizing man child who wanted what he couldn’t have. But that isn’t the Beau that captured my attention. Beau is a sweetheart! I loved the fact that he was hard working and willing to lend a helping hand. I also loved the fact that he wasn’t a major dick to Honey. I loved how he supported her and let himself get to know and eventually love the real Honey McAllister. This man was as sweet as sweet can be and I adored every moment with him!
And then we have Honey McAllister! I loved how feisty she was. Honey’s life seems perfect on the outside, but if you take a closer look she’s a woman craving her own independence. She’s a woman on the verge of separating herself from a farther with evil intentions, a mother with no care in the world for her, and a couple brothers with a vendetta that makes no sense to her. Honey goes through a lot in this novel, but no matter what she went through, Beau was always one step away to catch her if she falls. I also loved watching Honey grow a backbone throughout this novel. I loved how she stood up for herself. Her strength was my favorite attribute to her character.
I loved the fact that as Honey was teaching her English class Romeo and Juliet, she was living the life. My heart loved watching her and Beau work through their emotions together, McAllister/Walker feud be damned. I also loved the fact that Beau’s family was so supportive. I knew those Walker Boys wouldn’t let me down!
Now, for the reason why I dropped a star on my rating. I decided to rate Burning Skies four stars due to wanting a little bit more from the ending. I wanted more crazy aunt, and honestly. I would have loved to see Honey’s mom thriving after getting away from Honey’s dad. I wasn’t ready to close the covers of this book. I felt there were a few moments that didn’t wrap up. Maybe they’ll wrap up in the next book, but for right now, I need answers!!
