Synopsis:
Life’s too short to play it safe…
Since her sister’s death, twenty-year-old Paisley Donovan has been treated like delicate glass by her parents. She may share her sister’s heart condition, but nothing will stop her from completing her Bucket List, even if it kills her. And it almost does, until Jagger Bateman pulls her from the ocean and breathes more than air into her lungs—he sets her soul on fire.
Jagger is enrolled in the country’s toughest flight school. He’s wickedly hot, reckless, and perfect for a girl looking to live life to the fullest. Except that Paisley is the commanding general’s daughter, and her boyfriend is Jagger’s biggest rival. Now Paisley must decide just how much to risk for a guy who makes her heart pound a little too hard.
They’re flying through dangerous territory—and one wrong move could make them crash and burn…

Eyes Turned Skyward is the second book in Rebecca Yarros’ Flight & Glory Series. Eyes Turned Skyward can be read as a standalone. If you love emotional novels with a happily ever after, this one may just be your next five-star read.
Paisley Donovan has her life mapped out, her goal is to achieve all the things on a bucket list before her days come to an end. You see, Paisley is living with a ticking time bomb that is her heart and she doesn’t have many days to come to a decision based on her doctors recommendations. So her plan is to get as many things done on her list before time runs out, even if it is going against her family and her boyfriend’s wishes. When Paisley finds herself in a situation, her very own white knight saves her life and sends a whole new challenge to her list. Something about this man sparks something deep in her soul.
Jagger Bateman has lived his life with one goal in mind, fly an Apache. Now enrolled in one of the toughest flight schools, Jagger is finally achieving his dreams. But when the woman he saved steps back into his life, he can’t believe fate has finally played him a perfect hand. Until he realizes Paisley is known other than a general’s daughter and his class lead’s long time girlfriend… Oh fate, what a fickle web you weave.
My Thoughts:
I was a fan of Rebecca Yarros’ writing style after reading Full Measures. I laughed and cried so hard throughout the first book in the Flight & Glory Series. I knew I had to run to my local used book store and see if they happened to have the rest of this series. Spoiler Alert: They Did! I knew i had to complete this series just from that one singular book I read.
It all started on a beach when Paisley first spotted Jagger. The initial attraction, the heart fluttering, everything that she thought she would never feel hit her slowly… She feared the ocean but she wanted to swim in the ocean. One thing crossed off the bucket list that was prepared for a life and death decision. The waves crashed and Paisley felt herself sinking and her heart rate beating erratically. She knew this was the moment that her life would end, until someone crashed into those waves and pulled her breathless body out of the water. Coming too, on the sandy beach, she looked into eyes that she wouldn’t be able to forget anytime soon. This moment set everything in to motion. Paisley and Jagger became one with the universe and the stars aligned. And this is why I love reading romance novels!!
The fact that Paisley and Jagger both found something they needed in the other was what really hit home for me in this novel. My heart loved the connection these two shared. It was definitely true love in the making. Paisley needed someone like Jagger who didn’t know about her condition to make her feel free, whereas Jagger needed someone like Paisley who showed him she cared, she was in his corner, and he can achieve any goals he set his mind to. I adored these two together. I loved their friendship that slowly morphed into something more.
Now for the reason why I dropped a star on my rating. When I first started Eyes Turned Skyward, I prepared myself for the emotional whiplash I was put through during the first book. I have to say, I’m a bit disappointed this book didn’t top the emotional scale like I had anticipated it doing. And that is why I dropped a star on my rating. Although, there was one point of this novel that ALMOST had me in tears. and that is why I raised my initial three star rating to a four star rating. Another reason I raised my initial 3 star rating up to a four star rating is for the twists that I didn’t see coming in both Jagger and Paisley’s point of view chapters. Rebecca Yarros definitely knows how to throw the unexpected into the midst of things.
Overall, I enjoyed Paisley and Jagger’s novel. I can’t wait to read more from this series soon! I need a bit more emotion in the next books. I want all the feels, all the love vibes, and an epic happily ever after!
