The second book in the Boys of Avix universe of TikTok sensation Say You Swear, from bestselling author Meagan Brandy.
When Payton ran away from her hometown, she left behind her toxic mother, her senior year of high school, and the best friend who had become the love of her life―and the father of the baby she was carrying. Still, after he tracks her down, it seems like they may actually be able to become the happy family neither of them ever had.
But then he’s in a tragic car accident on his way home, and Payton is suddenly lost in the dark, a teenage single mother with no future.
When Mason Johnson meets Payton, he’s heading into his first year as starting quarterback at a D1 university―his dream for has long as he can remember. But it surprises no one more than him that Payton and her baby boy become his new dream―one he doesn’t want to live without. Payton’s lost love makes things complicated, but Mason is no stranger to hard work, and he’s willing to fight for her.
They say death ends a life, not a relationship. But can Mason convince Payton she can have a relationship with her first love and a new life with her second?
Promise Me Not is the second book in Meagan Brandy’s Boys Of Avix series. This book features Mason and Payton as the love interests. If you’ve read, Say You Swear, you already recognize Mason as Arianna’s twin brother!
Mason has lived his life protecting his twin sister, but now that Arianna has found the love of her life, he finds himself yearning for what she has. But the person he wants that life with, is still mourning the life she dreamed of having with her child and his deceased father. I honestly loved the moment he decided he was all in with Payton and her newborn son. I loved his shown devotion to that baby and his mama throughout this novel. I may have even cried a tear or two.
All it took was a couple of weeks and Payton was ready to let go of all her grief and fall into Mason’s loving protective arms. But guilt is a crazy internal struggle when it comes to losing the one you loved and moving on. My heart broke for Payton and all she endured throughout this novel. And herein lies the reason why i dropped a star off my rating. I wanted more moments where Payton and Mason were emotionally connected. I wanted to feel like they could rise up from all the turmoil that payton endured. I felt a lack of connection halfway into this story and it shifted my thoughts a tiny bit. If that makes sense.
I do have to say, I originally was planning to give this book a three star rating. But the more I started thinking about the novel, the more I realized I liked this book more than I originally thought I did. I had a greater love for Say You Swear though.
I’m loving this new adult world Meagan Brandy has created. This novel is extremely slow burn and somewhat angst ridden, so if that is your preference I have a feeling you’re going to love this one! I’m excited to continue on with this series. Next up, Cameron’s story!! Finally!!!
