We Were Liars is the first book in the We Were Liars Series by E. Lockhart. Before I fully start this review, let me just say there will be no spoilers. And because there will be no spoilers, this review is going to be unlike my other book reviews, extremely short.

I’ve had We Were Liars on my bookshelf for the past couple years. I had a plan, I would find a time when my schedule was light and I would spend the day reading this book that everyone quoted as twisted with the most epic OMG moment…. I spent three years avoiding spoilers, at all costs. Until that damn amazon prime video came out with a trailer, and then tiktokers were reviewing the tv series…. So if you are not wanting to be spoiled, avoid those reviews at all cost!!! The ending was spoiled for me… which in regards means the whole damn book was spoiled for me.

So with an open mind, I decided to read the book just for the hell of it and knowing the outcome of the whole novel extremely sucked. I rated this book a 3 star because nothing was a surprise to me. But to get more technical, There were parts of the novel where the flow of the story felt a little off. It was fast paced one moment, and extremely slow paced the very next. I did end p finishing this book in one day, it did capture my attention. But I can’t help but wonder what my initial reaction would have been had I not been spoiled. With this being said, I do not plan to continue on with this series. It just wasn’t my cup of coffee. I couldn’t find a connection with the characters, which is another reason why i dropped my rating to three stars. I wanted more emotion. The mystery aspect was the reason why my rating didn’t drop further. I loved the mysterious aspect throughout this novel. And even though I was spoiled, I still loved the element of surprise. Which is the reason why my rating stayed at three stars. I just needed a little more character connection throughout the novel.

If you are planning to read We Were Liars, I highly recommend you run away as fast as you can from any reviews regarding the new series on Amazon Prime Video… just a warning to you all.
