Synopsis:
I didn’t follow Wyatt Stone to college, I followed my heart. He just happened to be there.
Against the odds, our love has only grown stronger over the last three years. Now Wyatt’s entering his final college football season, only a few months away from the pro draft this spring. And despite how hard I tried to deny living the same love story as my parents, it seems I’m destined to become the wife of an NFL quarterback. Forever the cheerleader. Truthfully? I can’t imagine life turning out any other way.
However, dreams are temporary. And sometimes, it’s the things that happen when we’re wide awake that forge our stories. Our love is about to face its toughest test yet, and as badly as my heart wants to hold on to what we were, I’m not so sure it’s possible. More importantly, I’m not certain it’s the right choice for either of us.
Now, Wyatt . . . he’s a lot like my father. He’s stubborn. What we’re facing is a whole lot heavier than being down by a touchdown with only seconds to go. But Wyatt doesn’t back down from a fight. It’s just that this one might not win him the game in the end.

Game Face is the second book in The Waiting Series Next Generation by Ginger Scott. I do recommend you read this book AFTER reading the first book in this series, HOME GAME. Game Face is the second book in Wyatt and Peyton’s story. And believe me when I say, you don’t want to miss out on the start of their relationship. Due to this novel being a continuation, I’m going to keep the in my own words portion of my review to the point.
Peyton and Wyatt are living there happily ever after. That is until fate decides to throw a wrench in their plans causing a horrific accident to occur. The only question is, do they have what it takes to overcome this challenge?
My Thoughts:
My initial thoughts before diving into Game Face were nothing but overwhelmed excitement! I had the book in my hands and I was thrilled to finally get more of Peyton and Wyatt’s story! I really enjoyed Home Game and I just knew I was going to love Game Face just as much, if not more…. And then BAM, Ginger Scott decides to throw a wrench in the happily ever after and gives the two a greater fight than even I imagined. So let’s discuss some things without giving away any spoilers.
First off, I loved the relationship between Peyton and Wyatt. I loved the strength the two showed in the wake of a tragic occurrence and I loved how they were practically each other’s support system. Until it became too much for the both of them. My heart broke for Peyton and it broke for Wyatt. But through all the heartbreak and struggles through the path of destruction, I always felt that strength and that unbreakable bond between these two characters.
I gave Game Face a 3 ½ star rating for a few selfish reasons. The first was I wanted to see Peyton’s fear and anger come across the pages more. Having gone through what she went through, I feel these emotions were a bit downplayed. Second, I loved the relationship between Reed and Wyatt, but I would have loved to see a few more one on one moments with Wyatt and his mom. I missed that connection between the two. I wanted him to run to his mom when things got extremely difficult and emotions were hard to handle. I just wanted a few more emotional elements from this novel.
Overall, I loved the relationship aspect between Wyatt and Peyton. I loved seeing Wyatt find a friend in a somewhat shocking person and I really enjoyed seeing Reed (Peyton’s dad) step up and be the step in father figure that Wyatt needed in those certain moments. I just wanted more from Peyton and more one on one moments with Wyatt and his mom. Just a little bit more to push this novel to a four star rating.
