My Anti-Hero by Tijan is a suspense-filled tale featuring an anti-hero who also happens to be a hotshot football star in the NFL, and a woman, who at 12 years old was the only living survivor of a serial killer. With a plot like that, how could I not pick this book up!! It’s safe to assume I was intrigued by the very premise of this novel.

Willow ‘Billie’ Harms has lived her life in the shadows of her haunted past. Being the sole survivor of a serial killer is more than just the haunted flashbacks, it’s also living a life worrying about when the next copycat fan is going to do the work the original wasn’t able to play out. But when Billie meets football superstar Brett Broudou, she has no choice but to come out of hiding. Her heart won’t let her hide, this time around.

Brett Broudou never thought he’d meet his soulmate, let alone have her trip and fall into his arms. But the moment he met Willow Harms was the exact moment he knew he’d do everything in his power to protect this woman. And then, hearing her story solidified that feeling even more. But Brett has secrets of his own. Those secrets reside and will stay with his past in Roussou. There is only one issue, secrets have a way of being brought to light at the most inconvenient times.

My Thoughts:

Holy Crow! Tijan brought the mystery and suspense out in full force! I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I sat down six days ago with this book. I knew there would be steamy moments, and I’d be on the edge of my seat for other moments… But wow! She brought it all within this novel!

Let’s start with the premise of My Anti-Hero! A hotshot, rebel without a cause, football player with a shady past meets a sole survivor of a serial killer… I don’t think there is another premise in the romance world that could be any more dramatic than this novel, right here. If this premise doesn’t spark your intrigue, I’m not sure what will. Once I read the blurb, I knew I had to read this book. It may have taken me longer to get to this point, but I’m happy I finally got here and read this book!! Tijan has a way of drawing a reader in and then pulling the rug out from under their feet.

Billie and Brett are a match made in heaven, or hell, that’s up for discussion. I loved how both characters had a traumatic past, and they used that trauma to help one another. Brett was soft and gentle with Billie. He showed her, at every turn of the page, that he would shield her from any and all incoming threats. He was the protector that she craved. I loved witnessing their connection. And Billie was the person that suddenly grounded Brett. With her, he felt lighter. He smiled, and he let his heart open up to someone. I loved watching these two from the sidelines. And that is exactly what it felt like. I was watching them from across the street while they easily fell in love with one another.
Now, for the reasoning behind my four star rating. I initially dropped two stars because I predicted the outcome of this novel. When it comes to novels revolving around mystery and suspense, it’s really hard to pull the rug all the way out from under my feet. I’ve been watching murder mysteries and documentaries for a very long time. My ability to easily spot a serial killer/bad guy, a mile away, has me avoiding mystery and suspense novels. But, I decided to add a star because I did NOT see those very last pages of My Anti-Hero playing out the way they did. I’m talking about the final epilogue! This, right here, is why I’ve come to love Tijan’s storytelling skills. She threw in one more gotcha moment before wrapping the novel up! My world was shaken!

Overall, I really enjoyed My Anti-Hero, and even though I predicted the major outcome early on, I still had trouble putting this one down.
