Forewarned is the first book in the Fated Love series by Chantal Fernando. Let it be known if you love romantasy books or are new to the romantasy sub-genre and are looking to explore, you should definitely run to amazon and pick up this book as soon as possible! It’s been a long time reading this subgenre for me, and I was blown away!! Because this novel ends in a cliffhanger, I’ve decided to be as spoiler free as I can possibly be on this review. Therefore, I’m leaving the ‘in my own words’ section of my review on the back burner and going straight into my thoughts. So let’s get started!
My Thoughts:
Chantal Fernando has been a favorite author of mine ever since I binged her Wind Dragon’s MC Series. I’m obsessed with her all-consuming writing style. When I first read that she was writing a romantasy (Romance Fantasy) based novel, I wasn’t so sure of this fact. I love her broody alpha males and her sexy motorcycle heroes. It has been an extremely long time since I last dove into a fantasy/paranormal/supernatural romance of any sorts. Let’s be honest, I hit my quota in the early 2000’s and I never thought I’d go back to a world of mystical relationships and feuds. But then, Chantal Fernando sparked my intrigue with the synopsis. There was something inside of me begging me to reach out and request a copy of this novel. I was up all night reading this novel!! Definitely outside of the normal sub-genre for this author, but the risk was so rewarding! The magic, the danger, the spice, and THAT CLIFFHANGER! My heart loved every single word! Holy crow’s feet!! I need more and I need it right now!
Let’s start with Astrid. I loved her independence and her need to train and learn to protect herself when the time should come. I adored her personality. She was soft spoken, but wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself and battle anyone who should come as a threat to her or her loved ones. She’s a one of a kind character! Bottom line: Astrid is a total Badass!!
And then we have Rave. If you’re looking for a possessive alpha-male with wicked dark powers and a ‘don’t touch her’ complex… this man is literally going to make you melt! Rave is as wicked as they come. I loved his dark to Astrid’s light. And don’t get me started on their chemistry! I literally loved every moment between them!!!
I also have to mention that brutal cliffhanger! I can tell myself over and over again that I saw this ending coming at the moment of reading…. But that would be a lie. Chantal Fernando flipped the script on me and ripped the rug out from under my feet. I don’t know if I should laugh at the genius of those last moments or cry for what’s to come in the next novel…. My emotions are all over the place! And now I have to wait for JUNE 11th to come so I can finally have answers! It has been a long damn time since a cliffhanger had this much of an impact on my heart and emotions. I’m blown away!
Now for the part of my review where I discuss why I gave this book a 4 ½ star rating instead of a full 5 star rating. It’s a simple issue, there were a few small moments that I wanted more from. I felt like a scene was cut too short and I wanted just a little more detail.. We’ll label this as a case of spoiled reader syndrome…. Other than that, I loved Astrid and Rave’s story and I can’t wait to continue on with it in June!!!
