Synopsis:
When your world, your life and all of your hopes and dreams for the future are ripped out from under you, how do you go on?
Death without dying is not only the most painful kind of death, it’s also the most painful kind of life and I don’t know if I’m strong enough to live it. I spend my lonely days and nights trying to make sense of my new reality.
Do I have the strength to move forward into the light, or should I just let the darkness take me?
I’m Georgia Rae Layton McCarthy and this is my story, The Story of Me.
This my story. The Story of Me!

The Story of Me is the continuation novel to The Story of Us. If you haven’t started the Carnage Series with The Story of Us, I highly recommend you start there before diving into this novel and before reading this review… there will be a few spoilers pertaining to the first book in the Carnage Series. I also want to add a content warning/trigger warning. There is talks about failed suicide attempts, quite often, in this novel. If this is a trigger for you, I highly recommend you go into this one with your eyes very wide open.
Georgia Ray Layton McCarthy has had her whole world ripped out from underneath her. With the paparazzi breathing down her neck, and a new rumor being spread daily about her late husband, Georgia succumbs to the darkness. Only she’s about to realize, there’s more to her journey. So after a few failed attempts to end her life, her family makes a decision, the best place for Georgia to be is where the public eye will never find her. A vacation to visit family in Australia may be exactly what she needs and where she needs to be to heal her shattered soul and broken dreams.
My Thoughts:
Lesley Jones did it, once again! This author has found a way to mend my heart, and shatter it once again! I said this in my review for The Story Of Us.. and here I am saying it again, how much can one character go through in a novel before enough is enough!? This woman has walked through the fiery pits of hell and back again. There were times where I thought Georgia wouldn’t make it to the end of this novel and we’d be left with another tear worthy ending… but somehow, she made it through everything that was thrown at her. Have I mentioned how much I loved Georgia’s story!? I was due for a good cry, and Lesley Jones delivered!
Georgia is a warrior for having survived the death of, let’s put it honestly, the other half of her heart. When someone loses their person, it has life altering side-effects. This novel is not only about grief after lose, it’s also about redemption and digging down deep to find the strongest version of yourself after loss. I felt Georgia’s heartbreak and all the pain that came along with it. I also felt all seven stages of grief through her words and her actions. Let me tell you, when this woman began to heal, I felt that to the very core!
Now, I loved this novel, and I would have gave it a five star rating.. but there was one factor that stopped me. That factor being Roman….In all honesty, I felt like Roman was just filler moments to cause a bit more drama. This man really had no purpose in this novel. He was the landing point in between her relationship with Sean and her relationship with Cam…. I felt like the parts with Roman didn’t make sense and that’s why I gave this one a four star rating.
Overall, I did enjoy watching Georgia heal and grow into a stronger more resilient version of herself. I loved the moments between her and her family, but I most of all loved seeing her and Cam reuniting. If you read my review of the first novel in the Carnage series, you should know, I’ve been Team Cam from the start! I loved everything about this man and I continued to love him even more in this novel!!
The Carnage Series by Lesley Jones is one you should definitely read if you love Rockstars, Drama, and Angst! This novel is going to be unforgettable!! I can’t wait to continue on with the Carnage Series!!

Peace Love and Happy Reading,

I read the first book in this series but didn’t continue on. It was fun reading your thoughts on it.
I had to continue on with that cliffhanger. It was sad, but also healing in an odd way. I loved the whole process of this novel, if that makes sense.
