Hattie Rowley had her life together. She dreamed of one day getting her masters and helping her older sister, Cassidy, with The Almond Store and Cassidy’s farm. Those were her dreams, until fate stepped in and undermined her wishes. The death of her closest sister, Cassidy, through Hattie through the emotional wringer. Now she finds herself failing out of her last semester of college. Coming home to a boyfriend who no longer wants a relationship is the final draw….

That’s how Hattie ends up on the front porch of Hayes Farrow, her older brother’s ex-best friend now enemy, with a box of items her ex-boyfriend stole. He wasn’t supposed to see her, she was just going to leave the box and walk away. What she hadn’t anticipated was for him to be home, hiding in the darkest corner of that front porch.

Hayes Farrow isn’t a stranger to people using him, stealing from him, and turning their backs on him. His ex-best friend’s little sister dropping off a box full of stolen items is the straw that broke the camel’s back. He sees the same desperation within her, that he sees within himself. So with a pissed off mentality, he gives her two choices. Choice number 1: he calls the cops/she gets arrested. Choice number 2: she works for him.. Sorting through his fan mail, and reorganizing his office system. Of course, she chooses option number 2. Looks like Hattie will be working for her brother’s number one enemy.

My Thoughts:

Meghan Quinn brought us another epic love story full of spice, heart, and emotion! I’m not going to lie, I started this book, made it through three chapters and wasn’t feeling the content the first time around. I’ve been a mood reader lately, and I didn’t think it was fair to read this novel all the way through when I wasn’t feeling it. So I gave it a week or so and I picked it up again. When I say I consumed this book in damn near one sitting, I’m telling the truth! I loved Hattie and Hayes’ romance!

Let’s start with Hattie. Hattie’s story broke my heart! Having lost her oldest sister, the very same woman who had a helping hand in mothering and raising her, literally pulled at every one of my heartstrings. She did everything she could do to distract herself from feeling her sister’s death. I knew, there was going to be a pivitol breaking moment, and I knew once it came it was going to come on strong. Watching Hattie accept her sister’s death was heartbreaking, but witnessing her trying to move on from the tragedy was what truly broke my heart.. I loved the fact that Hayes was the person to pull her together again. He was the one who gave her a shoulder to lean on. And in the end, him being there for her was what reunited Hayes and Hattie’s brother’s friendship. Hattie’s feisty vibes and independence was another reason I couldn’t stop reading this one. Let’s just say, this woman goes after what she wants! 

Now let’s talk about Hayes Farrow… At first, I didn’t really care for his character. But somehow, he found his way burrowing in my heart and staying there. I loved his patience, his stubbornness, his wild ways, and his empathy. I loved the way that he kept pushing Hattie’s advances away, no matter how much he wanted to express his feelings to her, in order to save her relationship with her brother. This man is compassionate and considerate of everyone’s feelings before his own. My heart also broke for him and all he’s been put through by those who were supposed to love him unconditionally. The more I read Hayes’ point of views, the more I understood this man and his actions and his grumpy vibes.

I loved watching both of their walls come down around one another. I loved the endless banter, and I loved the spicy moments just as much as the sweet and emotional moments. Meghan Quinn knocked this one right out of the ballpark! This was one wild ride!! But in the end, I’m left feeling a fullness in my heart and a smile on my face! I definitely recommend this book to all that love the forbidden vibes. One thing I could critique, I wish there was more of a musical presence in this one given that Hayes is a worldwide known rockstar. I wanted more involvement with music. Overall, The Way I Hate Him by Meghan Quinn was a novel that consumed my heart from beginning to end. I loved this one!!
