Synopsis:
A swoony, heart-wrenching small-town romance from USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller Sarina Bowen!
Leila:
What I meant to do: quietly divorce my lout of a husband and then have a child all on my own.
What happens instead: my crush comes back to town when I’m at my most vulnerable. After too many cocktails, I ask him to be my baby’s father.
In my defense, it’s been a rough couple of months. Seeing Matteo Rossi again after fourteen years has done a number on my emotions. And my libido.
In the morning, I’m hoping he’s forgotten the whole thing. But no such luck. In fact, Matteo has a few clarifying questions. And a few naughty ideas, too…
Matteo:
What I meant to do: visit Vermont for my brother’s wedding. Make amends to my family, and mourn the loss of a friend.
What happens instead: a hot affair with the one who got away. But it can’t last. My life is two thousand miles away, and Leila deserves everything. She’s as good as gold.

The more I read from this author, the more captivated I become! Good As Gold by Sarina Bowen swept me away from start to finish. I loved every word and every moment!
Good As Gold is what I like to deem a ‘fate at its finest’ romance. Matteo Rossi thought he had it all as a teenager, and then the world offered him more, sending him from Vermont to Colorado. He knew love and felt love, but giving Leila Giltmaker his heart, wasn’t in the cards until he became someone who was worthy of standing by her side.
Now, twenty years later, Matteo is back in Vermont for his brother’s wedding. It’s the perfect timing to right wrongs that were committed. After the tragedy that caused Matteo to lose his best friend happened, he’s had a year to realize life is too damn short to stay away from family for long periods of time. Only he’s about to realize, not everyone is as welcoming as they once were, including newly divorced Leila Giltmaker. So when she asks him for a favor, he’ll do everything in his power to see she gets all that she wants out of life….
My Thoughts:
Yes! Yes! Yes! There is no denying the fact that I loved every single moment of Good As Gold by Sarina Bowen. Everything from the chemistry between Matteo and Leila to the strong, and somewhat meddling, family vibes was a win for me. Honestly, I couldn’t get enough of this novel!!
Let’s start with Leila’s character. Leila spent her teenage years pining after a boy who was untouchable. At that young age, she felt a love that could never be overshadowed. And then she felt heartbreak when Matteo left town without looking back. Now, Leila is the talk of the town, given that her divorce was just finalized. And what do we know, the man who once owned her heart, is back in town after twenty years of staying away. I have to say, I loved this drama infused resurfacing vibe! What I loved most about Leila was her newly-learned fierce independence. She wants what she wants, and nobody is going to stop her from living her dreams of being a mother. She let her dreams sit on the back-burner due to her ex-husband not wanting children, for far too long. I loved how she sought after what she wanted. New book, new chapters and all that.
As for Matteo, I loved how sweet and caring this man is. He’d turn the world over in a flash in order to put a smile on the faces of those he loves. I also loved the fact that he rode into town and not once did he expect anything out of anyone. He knew staying away was wrong and he did his damndest to see to it his family knew how sorry he was. This man has a heart of gold, especially when it came to Leila…his infamous one that got away.
I love when authors incorporate meddling families into their romance novels. The level of hilarity that comes with these families has me wanting more and more. With Matteo’s family, the meddling comes in spades and I loved every moment of it!
Now, looking back, I can see that some of the mentioned Rossi characters have books of their own in the True North series! I’m definitely going to have to go and read that series as soon as possible! If those books are anything like this novel, I’m in for a great reading session!
Overall, I loved Good As Gold by Sarina Bowen. This is definitely a book I recommend to those who are looking to be swept away all day with a novel. My heart loved every moment between Matteo and Leila! I can’t wait to read more from Sarina Bowen in the very near future!
