Black Thorns is the final book in the Thorns Duet by Rina Kent. This romance concludes Naomi and Sebastian’s whirlwind of a dark romance. It is to be warned, this is not a standalone. If you haven’t yet read Red Thorns I highly recommend you stop and read that book before diving into this one.

If you have already read Red Thorns, then you know, Sebastian and Naomi just had the biggest shock of their lives. Now they find themselves held prisoner with no way out and no form of escape….. That is until a blast from Naomi’s past makes her an offer she can’t refuse. So in order to save Sebastian, Naomi leaves him and his inner beast in the dark room. 

Now, seven years later, life has thrown this novel a curveball when Naomi shows up at the same charity function as Sebastian, only it’s not his arm hers is wrapped around and he’s not the one who she calls husband….

Sebastian is living his life as a hot shot lawyer and a junior partner in his uncle’s law firm. He wants for nothing, yet something in his life is missing and that someone is the one that abandoned him when he needed her most seven years ago. Imagine his surprise when she sees the one who calls to his inner beast, on the arm of another man. Now he’s made it his mission to seek revenge and make Naomi pay for the heartbreak he endured all those years ago…

My Thoughts:

Oh, what a tangled web we weave! Sebastian and Naomi’s conclusion literally had me grasping for strings. As I’ve said before, Rina Kent has a way of pulling the rug right out from under you. As a reader, I love the element of surprise. I love not knowing what is going to happen and constantly having my predictions proven wrong. I love the fact that I’m always left with the simple thought of WTF in my mind. There is NEVER a dull moment with this author and her dark and delicious tales.

I’m not going to dive too deep into this review, due to spoilers. What I will say is, I loved Sebastian and Naomi’s story, but I wanted a little bit more action with this novel. I felt like there were a few holes in this one, but given the fact that it is a novel told seven years after the first book took place, I understand why the chemistry and the connection changed a little bit. Sadly though,  I wanted a bit more push from both Sebastian and Naomi. I wanted to feel more of that raw passion that was shown in the first book of their romance. We saw Sebastian in his element as a lawyer at his law firm, I would have liked to see Naomi in the workplace. That is the main reason behind why I gave this one a 3½  star rating.

I do have to say, I still loved Naomi’s independent streak and Sebastian’s stubborn ways. I also loved the cat and mouse moments! Rina Kent always has me stepping over my comfort zone lines where sexy time moments are concerned! But most of all, I loved watching Naomi step up to the mobster’s and give them a huge middle finger!! 

Overall, I loved Sebastian and Naomi’s story. I just wish there was a little bit more substance and fewer holes in the plot. I felt like my main issue with this novel was certain key moments were either skipped over or told at a faster pace than usual. I wanted more.
