Second Chance Mine is the sixth standalone in M. Robinson’s Second Chance series. This sexy second chance novel with a younger brother’s best friend twist is told from both Adrian and Paige’s point of view.
For a year, Adrian and Paige knew what it was like to find true love. But their love was of the forbidden kind. You see, when Paige and Cade developed a friendship that they swore was unbreakable he made her promise him only one thing, that promise was to stay away from Cade’s older brother Adrian. As we all learned from fate, some promises are meant to be broken…. And that’s where I end this portion of my review.
What I loved about the Characters:
I loved Adrian’s Alpha-Hole vibes. This man knows what he wants and he’s not about to let anyone stand in his way of getting it… well, with on exception. I loved Adrian’s deep rooted need to do whatever it takes to protect Paige… even if it meant protecting her from himself. He’d freely and foolheartedly give up his own happiness so this woman wouldn’t have to lose any more people in her life, mainly her best friend Cade, who also happens to be Adrian’s younger brother.
I loved Paige’s inability to sweep the shit she went through ten years ago under the rug. She actually forced Adrian to put in the effort of earning her heart back. I loved the fact that this woman wasn’t one to push around. What happened all those years ago changed her, and made her a stronger woman who doesn’t let anyone walk all over her. She showed her strength throughout the most important moments of this novel. But don’t get me wrong, I also loved this underlying vulnerability she had about her to. Almost like at any moment her heart would break in a million tiny pieces. Paige’s character was definitely a whirlwind of emotions.
What I loved most about Second Chance Mine was the glimpses into the past relationships. I loved the college years between Paige, Cade, and Adrian. And honestly, one of my issues was the fact that I wanted more of this in depth view of the past relationships between these three. I loved the friendship vibe between Cade and Paige, but I also loved seeing this love blossom and grow between Paige and Adrian. What can I say, I’m a spoiled reader!
One thing that truly bothered me was the selfish ways behind Cade’s character. I loved his friendship with Paige, but throughout the past moments, I felt like what right does this man have, to be in a steady loving relationship with his girlfriend Hayley, and not want the same for his best friend Paige…. Whether it’s with his brother or not. It sounds to me like Mr. Cade wanted to have his cake and eat it too.… And how is that right to have love that conquers all, and not want that for his best friend. Sounds to me like Cade wasn’t a good friend after all.. And that is the reasoning behind why I dropped a star on my rating… I needed more detail within these moments. I felt like there were a few holes in the story involving Cade and his relationships with both Adrian and Paige. I needed more from these moments through Adrian and Paige’s eyes. Also, I felt like the ending left me hanging a little bit. I wanted more….
Now onto the reasoning behind why I keep coming back for more books by M. Robinson. That reasoning behind the Angst factor! Holy rivers, I can say with an honest heart that I did not cry… but there were a couple of times I had a serious case of the sniffles. I love the copious amounts of emotion this author pours into her novels. My heart loves the adrenaline that comes with knowing at any moment those tears are going to fall. Call me a masochist but if an author can get me to cry a couple of tears while reading their work, that author will always and forever go to the top of my auto buy list! There’s no denying that fact. I love the tears!!
Overall, where the romance is concerned, I loved this one. Where the story line is concerned, I needed a little bit more. Honestly, it was the suspense filled moments that had me adding a star back to my rating. At the end of this one, I thought it would be a 3 star read… I had countless predictions on who Paige’s stalker was …. And I was wrong…. Every Single Time!! Cheers to M. Robinson for pulling the damn rug right out from under my feet… And given those final sentences!!!! I can’t wait to see what M. Robinson has up her sleeve with her next novel. I have a feeling that one will keep us all on the edge of our seats!
