Blurb:

Gray “Quick Shot” Woodson is the fastest gun west of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, he’s ready to hang up his hat. Sure, being notorious has its perks. But the nomadic lifestyle—and people always tryin’ to kill you—gets old real fast.

Now he just wants to find a place to retire so he can spend his days the way the good Lord intended. Staring at the sunset. And napping.

When his stubborn horse drags him into a hole-in-the-wall town called Desolation, something about the place calls to Gray, and he figures he might actually have a shot at a sleepy retirement.

His optimism lasts about a minute and a half.

Soon he finds himself embroiled in a town vendetta and married to a woman named Mercy. Who, judging by her aggravating personality, doesn’t know the meaning of her own name. In fact, she’s downright impossible.

But dang it if his wife isn’t irresistible. If only she’d stop trying to steal his guns to go after the bad guys herself.

There goes his peace and quiet…

My Review

It has been a long damn time since I last read a historical romance set in the wild wild west era. I didn’t know I missed this setting so much until I picked up Hitched To The Gunslinger by Michelle McLean. Everything about this novel was simply irresistible, from the sexy cover to the intriguing blurb and everything that goes in between. I couldn’t put this one down!

Gray Woodson earned the nickname *Quick Shot* by being the most feared gunslinger on the streets. He’s also the most wanted and has the most bounties out for his death. Newly retired, Gray finds himself in the small town of Desolation when his stubborn horse refuses to follow his directions. It looks as good as any for him to retire and catch a nap or two. That is until he runs into Mercy…

Mercy is fit to be tied. She’s fed up with small town men thinking they can come in and take what isn’t theirs. So with her stubborn back against the wall she claims the most feared but newly retired gunslinger as her fiance.

My Thoughts:

It’s been a long time since I laughed this hard while reading a novel! Everything about Mercy and Gray’s story is exactly what I love about reading romances.

Let’s start with Mercy. This woman is as stubborn as they come. Having just lost her father, she’s looking at having to run the apple orchard on her own, which isn’t a hardship at all considering she’s been running it by herself for years. But now, there’s a man who is dead set on claiming the property as his own, and with that comes claiming Mercy. Mercy refuses this man’s advances until things get threatening and physical. I loved the fact that Mercy feared very little. When trouble came knocking on her door, she met it with her rifle in hand. But even Mercy knows when trouble is too much for her to handle. And it’s as if fate dropped a gunslinger with a stubborn horse on her front yard just when she needs a helping hand.

Gray isn’t looking to settle down, but he is, however, looking to lay low somewhere he can relax, eat a good meal or two, and sleep until his heart’s content. When he stumbles upon Mercy, he views this as an opportunity for a free meal and maybe a nap. Until she declares him her fiance… I have to say, I loved this man’s no shits to give attitude and I loved the way his attitude enraged Mercy. The back and forth banter had me clutching my stomach and laughing so hard!! There were moments I couldn’t stop laughing. Michelle McLean definitely knows how to put the comedy in a romcom. I also loved the fact that Mercy roped Gray into doing so many things, like becoming the sheriff of their small town… so many hilarious moments!!

The only reason why I dropped half a star on my rating is due to the ending. I wanted to see Gray doting more on his daughter. I wanted a few more moments of vulnerability from this tough as nails man. But through it all, I loved this novel. I loved the humor and I loved those bit sized vulnerable moments. Michelle McLean is definitely on my *authors to watch out for* list!!
