Singe by Chelle Bliss is the eighth book in the Men of Inked: Heatwave series. Carmello and Arlo’s story can be read as a standalone.
Carmello Caldo was fine with his way of living life; one night at a time.
Now he’s looking at thirty-one and seeing the bonds his cousin’s and his twin all have with their significant others is making him reach for something more in life. He wants the white picket fence and the strong relationship. He wants the very same happily ever after he forbade himself having after a tragedy struck his life all those years ago.
Arlo King has been walking this world alone since she turned eighteen. She never saw the need to form personal connections because at a young age she learned quickly, everyone eventually leaves in the end. Now Arlo finds herself mesmerized by the very same man who rescued her two times in the past. And she’s about to realize, walking away from him for a third time is not an option.
My Thoughts:
I’m fairly new to the wonderful world of Chelle Bliss. Thinking back to all my reading, this would be my second book read by her. I’ve come to find I love the passion she brings to her romances and after getting glimpses of all the relationships in the Men Of Inked world, I’m finding it hard to fight the need and want to binge this entire world. Holy hell, Chelle Bliss has a way of spicing up swoony as hell moments. I enjoyed the hell out of this novel, but there were moments that had me marking the rating down a tad bit….
Let’s start with Carmello Caldo. This man is sex on a stick, and he knows it. I loved the fact that he suffers from a great deal of commitment phobia and I loved getting a glimpse into the reasoning behind why he’s not about the settling down life. However, it could be the fact that this is the eighth book in the series, but I wanted an insight to that night when his life took a drastic turn. I wanted to feel the pain he felt and the agony over losing someone who was that close to him. Given the fact that this romance is listed under can be read as a standalone within the series I expected more from his point of view. I wanted those moments of indecision and the raging war going on within. I can chalk that tidbit up to a spoiled reader preference.
On a positive note, Carmello and his group of meddling cousins and aunts made for some hilarious family time moments. I’m a sucker for novels/series that have a sense of strong family bonds. Singe had me wanting to read all of the words in this entire series! I loved the family aspect so much!
Now let’s get to Arlo King. This woman has been through the emotional wringer throughout her entire life. She was put up for adoption when she was born and everything in her life seemed to go downhill from there. She has a reason for why she tends to avoid relationships. I loved her character and her moments of stubborn pride. But for some unknown reason, I had trouble connecting with her character. And, yet again, we can chalk this up to spoiled reader preference, but I wanted her point of view. I think if I would have been given an insight into her backstory I would have, more than likely, enjoyed her story a little bit more. Bottom line, I needed to feel more emotion from her.
Overall, I enjoyed Singe by Chelle Bliss. The chemistry between Carmello and Arlo was through the roof spectacular. I couldn’t get enough of their relationship and watching from the sidelines as Arlo started to form connections with those within Carmello’s circle. My heart warmed the more they accepted her. All I wanted was a little more solo history from these two.
Maybe when I go back and read the series my rating will change.
We will see.
